i had a hader-than-it-shoulda-been time finding this info, so i thought id post this to maybe help fellow newbs to do this easy-but-crutial step in the knife making process...enjoy!

Nice, but you can also just use nail polish... and scrape it off with a metal tip, so it's like actual writing/drawing.

you can get a battery maintainer like this at harbor freight or any auto parts/hardware store for very cheap!

Actually, I did my etching with alligator clips and a 9v battery....

Old DC power sourced work too-- think old phone charger. They may take a little longer because they usually run less than 1A. I'll have to try the vinegar and salt solution. I usually use some ferric chloride etchant.
