I was never interested in Kydex sheaths because of poor brittle failure resistance, and in general a low tolerance to temperature extremes. Andrew Lynch has been working with Kydex for on ly a short time and has already looked to have made significant progress in significantly making Kydex a much more durable sheathing material. Ref :

He also solved a retention issue which was that sheaths tight enough to offer solid retention were generally to hard to draw. His sheaths draw easily, no effort, yet the knife can withstand a direct draw of more than 75 lbs. He puts a small thumbramp which lowers the retention with a little push. When this is done the knife draws easily, but without it the blade is locked solid.
