So there are a couple knives I am trying to track down and coming up blank. My question to you guys is this, besides checking that auction site and posting in the want to buy forum here is there something else I should be doing?

Super hardcore google-ing and networking! Or S.H.A.G i N.g as I like to call it

Done the googling lol lost many hours searching for the hidden treasure and i did find one so it paid off :). Guess I'm just going to be patient and keep my ear to the ground. Lol I even check pawn shops for hidden treasures sometimes, makes for fun little trips.

I've found some just posting in the WTB section of this site. Actually everything I've posted, I've had at least one person offer me one. Sometimes the price is crazy, sometimes not. But I try to do all of my buying through this site. It's a great resource.

I once killed a hobo in Bangkok and sold his body parts just to buy a Blur.. well not really obviously.. but sometimes it feels that way.

Living in an area where there are a lot of employees pawning rare knifes as a source seems to be a myth. Seriously though, the best way to find stuff is through other people. The best way to do that is by not being a d**k. Then good people will find you if they know what is good for them.

Don't tell people you only have one of something and just trying to get back what you've got in to it when you are sitting on a half dozen or more of them (orange blurs). Don't email people and say "hey, I have this knife what will you give me for it" when you don't have it but someone else has it and intend to buy it and take a cut (1670BLST). If you find a knife somewhere, direct other people looking for it to that person or store. Or buy one for yourself first if you really intend to keep it and not flip it, or buy all of them and sell them at cost to help spread the love. If you are trying to make a profit, at least be honest about the situation and fair. In a trade, if it is a somewhat rare knife and they want something worth $60 in trade and below the value of the knife, offer them something worth more or pay them $85 instead.

Then when people have a rare knife they want to sell they will come to you knowing you are a good person offering a fair or better price and they will want to sell to you first. Sometimes at a price even lower than others may offer just because they like you.
This doesn't always work when people are nice here but screwing people in deals behind the scenes. But even the newbs eventually figure out who is honorable and who isn't, as I had to.. but sometimes people get turned and start doing the same shifty deals that were done to them.

This is the point where I just want say hello to a fellow dog lover who is out there lurking and thank him for always being honorable in my dealings with him. And to those of you who sold a knife before letting me increase or change my trade offer to you because you weren't interested in those knives, I'll catch you the next time and thanks for contacting me at all. I appreciate it.

I know. I know.. tl;dr

great advice oregon, sure would be nice if those were traits people simply understood and didn't need to be told. I have to admit I have met some really great people on this forum and thankfully haven't come across anyone shady yet lol.

lol, glad to see your back from the show and I hope it went well. A friend at work liked my orange skyline so much he had me order one for him from you tonight lol.

It is not a secret Chester, play nice, or we will kick you out of the sandbox :D
haha... More time then most the knives find me... If I try hard for the life of me I won't find a thing...but then someone will email me out of the blue for a trade and they wanna trade me the knife I've been hunting 4 months for....
I also will search threads and if someone has the knife I want i'll shoot them a nice email and more times then most they'll still have it and I'll try to make a fair trade and then I make a friend and contact. KershawGuy is a great part of this place as well and has hooked me up with blades I've been wanting..Thanks Dave!
I love the BladeForums community

( I also enjoy hunting for people and have several happy knife lovers!)

Lots of good people here. I've even met some people outside of here from knife ads on CL (another place worth checking) and then later realized they were someone from here. I also bought a knife from Kershawguy in person once, but he has no idea who I am! muahahhahaha There is a slim possibility he might remember though, I bought a pink knife because it was one of the few colors of Breakout I still needed and I bet he doesn't have many guys buying pink knives. I seriously doubt even though it is rare that it was at all memorable.

I have met alot of great people here. I ask them dumb questions all the time! I try to help when I can. I would say there was one time that I looked to trade /sell for the best offer I could I needed the cash and was happy to get a few sharp things with it. I'm not proud of it , but I do admit I did it once. I try to make up for that one time and help out who I can when I can now. Sorry Kyle.

I've spotted a few knives for others and once also arranged the deal for them. Already just being involved in the community has helped me greatly. A fellow member spotted one knife for me. And the For Sale by Indaviduals is great. I'm hoping staying involved helping others around here that they will be able to return the favor one day. Until then, I keep searching and watching the For Sale forum. And from time to time I'll send kershawguy a mesg looking for knives. He has helped me out with... four (iirc) of my knives. :)

With the knives listed in your sig, go post around the forum and not just here. Someone is bound to spot it for you. Good luck with your search.

Thank you for the advice, I do have a wtb thread up, and helping each other is always great because like you said... someday that person may just be able to return the favor, and you get to know some really good people in the process.

Here's a few tools I personally use...

If it's a commercial item
* Use website thefind.com (pretty decent retailer aggregator)...You can also filter by price ranges
* Use Google, with the advanced tools...Like checking only results from the last 24hrs or the last week (so you're not getting hits for WTS from 2010!)
* With Google, you can also specify a price range using the '..' notation (I've found it to be almost completely worthless, but it's there): If you wanted to filter so there were only results between $10 and $50, then you'd type $10..$50 and if you didn't want to specify a minimum and show everything up to $50, then that's ..$50
* Google used to crawl the Craigslist boards, but I don't think they do so anymore...So don't forget to check CL
* Use website roosster.com (another aggregator).

Hope that's helpful!

Well thank you, definitely learned some new things. Sounds like im the first person in bf history to make a wtb thread and not get one offer lol.

Hardly.

Since I found the one knife that I've been looking for since day one, pm me your addy and I'll send you my RDSO. Why am I not charging anything? You'd have to be a fairly crappy dude to complain about a free knife. That and I finally found what I was looking for.

A few rules before we get all happy. You must not live in NYC, which I don't think you are. Must be at least 18 years of age, if not ask mommy or daddy or uncle or guardian to give me their info unless they live in NYC. Hopefully it's still sitting above my 560 boxes when I get home and I remember to pack it.
