How well does the Tiger Stripe on a ZT blade hold up?

Hi all, in the near future I am planning on buying my first ZT. I have decided on an 0350 to use at work where I can really put it through its paces (I work on a farm). I won't be abusing the blade but it will be doing a lot of cutting from cutting open bales of hay and straw (the blade will be brushing against the hay and straw), to opening grain bags and lord knows what else. I was just wondering how well the tiger striped finish holds up on ZT blades, I really like the look of it but at the same time have a serious soft spot for the stonewashed version as well. So just how tough is this finish and how long does it look good before it gets scuffed and worn?

Go for the stonewashed..it will always look good and the ZT0350SW is priced great!

well I do have a feeling I will end up with both eventually, I thought I had my addiction under control until I decided to start collecting the various skylines and I have ordered 3 in 2 days. Thank god I am not married yet so I can still hide the big boy toys I buy.

I'm going to second chester22, go for the Stone-washed blade. If it's what you're concerned about, they'll show wear to a much lesser degree.

true, but man does that tiger stripe look sweet..... I both love and hate when I have to make decisions like this. It's like buying a new car you really want but are on the fence between two colors, you know you want the product and that you are going to love it regardless but I guess I like to torture myself a little bit

Well, some like Stonewashed for it's ability to hold appearance, although wear does become apparent. Some like coated blades and don't mind that they show use...after all...knives are made to be used and used means character.

I depends on how you use your knives and what you prefer.

I have to say im leaning towards the tiger striped. I do like the sw for hiding its wear but i am fascinated with the tiger stripe and have never owned one. Plus it means I will get to support my new favorite retailer :).

Go for the tiger stripe, simply because it is different.

Besides, DLC will exceed your expectations even if they are high.

Why are you wasting energy with this thread. Get the one you lust for first and the other one at a latter date. ;>)

I have been using my 0301 heavily for a couple years, and the coating still shows no wear. It holds up better than any coating I have ever seen.

I had this same problem just a few weeks ago when buying my last zt0350. I love the look of the Tiger Stripe, but I had never seen a stone washed blade in person. I wanted a knife that wouldnt show wear too much so I wouldnt be afraid to use it. (at the time it was my most expensive knife) I bought the Stone Washed version at a great price and I love it. I dont use my knives heavily at all so I know it will last for a very long time. BUT.. I have to admit, after my custom fixed blade is finished and shipped to me, Im going to go ahead and order me a Tiger Striped ZT0350TS. :D I wouldnt trade my Stone Washed version for the Tiger Stripe, but I would LOVE to have them both. I would just aim for which ever one you want FIRST. It makes the choice much easier to remember you are not limited to one or the other.

I guess Im not much help... :D

Im actually stonewashing my clip to match the blade as we speak... or as I type I guess. I have two spare pocket clips, whichever one comes out closer wins.
