I think I am missing something on these. how are they supposed to be lashed on? I wasn't sure when I saw the photo from SHOT, and I guess i still am not getting it...

these will come with a composite handle, but they also can have a handle improvised, if they take a round or who knows what.

we'll cover that.

Part 1 of the humble Hawk Project Update, Cont'd.

Inspired by the most powerful conventional explosive in the world, the Daisy Cutter's Purpose-Built Bomb-Poll gives notice.

"I am what opens the Can of Whoop-Ass." Just add one little drop of Warrior Attitude.

6.JPG

Weighing 16.1 Ounces, the Daisy Cutter Head is well within the range of a Proper Tomahawk Head (for reference, a Cold Steel Stock Trail Hawk head usually weighs 14 - 15 Ounces), but has characteristics that a knife-edged tomahawk lacks usually.
1.JPG

This tool head wants to see battle - even the top profile resembles an RPG. Regardless of that, the Daisy Cutter should prove to be a great field tool, since its geometry will help splitting chores more than other hawks, while still weighing much less than a good splitting maul, no longer requiring an outdoorsman to risk his knife batoning in the cold, etc.
4.JPG

Each edge on the Daisy Cutter was designed in relation to each other, at optimum spans and relative angles, and with masses placed in relation to the edges and poll to increase their physical attributes without the need for huge weight gains. An example of this design philosophy is the solid rail of material along the head's axis, shown below - note that it aligns to the lead edge and the poll. This has more advantages than what probably immediately comes to the knowledgeable viewer's mind.
5.JPG

Like its little brother, the ECO Hawk, the Daisy Cutter is user-modifiable, and a haft can be improvised, however, we intend to make a vectorized handle for the head as standard equipment. The head will perform well on just about any field-improvised handle, but we have two concept families that we want to try in a composite option. When I designed the Daisy Cutter, it was not to just make another pretty hatchet or hawk or axe - it was to start heading for the future, as our tooling and resources allowed us.

I intend to have Daisy Cutters on straight and reflexed handles, as well as on Sectional Handles ASAP.

Current developments indicate that that is a reasonable expectation. (oo-RAGHhh!!!)

Tools will be mountable on the hawk. Heads will be couple-able (if that's a word) to make a 32 Ounce Battle Axe, and much more.

For those like myself here, who are Battle-Axe-O-Holics, please try to keep the delicious thought of a splittable Battle Axe out of your minds until the update is over.

I forgot what I was saying when I started to think of the chopolicious goodness of the Daisy Cutter in Battle Axe Mode - oh yeah -

We have struggled and gotten our teeth knocked out, our knees skinned, and our toes stubbed over and over again, trying to grow this, the humble Hawk Project.

It has been a miraculous three year journey that has gone by as quickly as a wonderful summer's day, and none of this would've been possible without you the Investors, both current and future, and for the prayers and other help we have gotten.

We will not forget that we owe you all.

More good stuff has happened, and faster than we could've dreamed.

Some incredible news concerning the Hawk Project and future objectives came in today, in fact.

More update to come in a bit, including some new Mk V hawks showcased, more Daisy Cutter facts, and other goodies.

Thanks for your time and attention, brethren.

I can't imagine the complications to build that thing :eek:and I can't imagine what kind of handle can be made:confused:

vec....I really like the looks of this but am a little confused as too where the haft will be. At the front slot it seems to far forward and the back slot seems to far back. Maybe I'am having a senior moment. Very excited to see more on this one.....

That looks like a great looking tool! Definatly looking forward to updates and some shots of the heads with handles.

I thought the first picture looked like a cool design, but you REALLY got my attention at Battle axe...

thanks for looking, first of all!

i realize folks should be scratching their head at this point, we have our work cut out for us, but i wanted to share.

the Center of Mass is just aft of that forward hole.

if i attach a handle to that aft cut-out, the chopping and guiding ability of the tool will be dictated by what shape the handle is.

(1) a short ergonomic straight handle should make it chop similarly to a khukri, and be really vicious with the Bomb Poll. - very Hatchet-like, but with more speed and deeper penetration and less friction on the extraction due to the design of the head, not to mention the composite handle.

- essentially a One Man Wrecking Ball, able to slip in a shoulder holster....

(2) a simple forward curved handle, where the curve is tangent to the the line that parts the head's Center of Mass vertically will make the Daisy Cutter feel a lot like a good hawk, but accentuate the poll strike more than a hawk, similar to a curved War Club or fighting boomerang.

(3) then there are considerations like ballast and tool/weapon additions that i want to do, which will also change the balance, and affect beneficial characteristics of the tool/weapon. - i think it will be great, especially the digging tools i want on it (for myself anyways - maybe other folks will like it).

lots to do still. it's an ambitious effort for little guys like us, i reckon.

more updates coming shortly.

'gotta go hawk.

ECOs.

.......

TOPS has shipped 20 ECO KIT units to Equinox Coronado, short the firestarters - they are still inbound and i reckon we will see them around Monday 08 Feb 2010.

TOPS' supplier had a small difficulty evidently, but the firestarters will be delivered - TOPS was very contrite and we had to keep them from falling on their blades in shame LOL.

knowing TOPS, they will probably get the starters in a business day or two and put them on a direct flight to us or something - they never fool around.

we sure love those guys. if you don't like 'em, you don't know 'em, i always say. - oo-RAGH TOPS!

twenty more ECOs will probably ship shortly, and i figure that we will have the total hundred or so in within a week or two, God Willing. - most of the ECOs are sold, and curiously, the Army seems to be hearing about them because we are getting all sorts of army brethren getting ready to deploy asking for one on short notice.

we try to support our troops first and foremost, but we will ask permission of the Investors before we move them down in line of ECO receipt before we give military first availability.

i reckon most folks won't mind, but that's their choice, not ours, the deal's been done.

the service guys will get their ECOs even if we need to get them to Afghanistan.

things will turn out right.

the ECO is what i would've liked as a survival knife when i was a grunt, so maybe other masochists are agreeing with my tastes and want one too ...LOL....

in case you didn't know - some of the brethren here might find this interesting - since the beginning of the humble Hawk Project, many of our Investors have contributed donations to get our products to service men (and service women), and we have done a bit of support by way of our products to war vets already, but we want to do much more.

the joy that i have seen when giving a proper hawk to a WIA vet is breath-taking and touching, let me tell you.

they usually want to thank the people who made that possible, folks who wish to remain anonymous usually. - i just tell them that we are the ones to be doing the thanking, and that if it were up to us, they'd never buy themselves dinner again, and that we are sorry that all we can do is give them a hawk filled with respect and love for them as True Americans. - 'makes me weepy, so i'll stop.

......

anyways, stand by for more updates.

i gotta go rub pregnant Saint Erica's feet - Monday we find out whether the baby is human or mine....

keep praying for the humble Hawk Project, fellow-babies!

and stay tuned.

About the ECO, is about the individual to decide.
I can see any priority on the Army!
I want mine before the ARMY+GUY....I main we are not talking fully automatic rifles or something, I feel ridiculous tantamount too.
vector001:you had to take the risk "first place" on make few more on the beginning, You will not have this stupid problem.
You should Have more confidence because people love your products!

LOL.

:cool::thumbup:

i thought i made a helluva lot of these things the first round, and the dang things sold out x 2 before a day or so went by, if i recall correctly. everyone said raise the prices and i said you gotta be kidding me - its an ECO Hawk, as in ECOnomical....

i want to make money with deals and numbers of quality product, not just seeing what the market will bear. that's the old model. that's why kids can't afford houses or college anymore.... okay, ranting too much....

anyways,

no shame in taking what's yours, brother, and i agree with you 100% on the auto rifles, etc.

everyone should be taken care of shortly anyway, i just like to let my brethren the Investors know what's up. We are a service first - the hawks and such are just evidence of what we try to do.

we are entering what i see as a good period in the business.

the team is growing.

we've also made some outstanding buddies with the Hawk project.

there is definitely call for several parties. har! gotta get the Customs out first though, then i can screw around. - a little bit. - maybe.

TOPS has been very responsive with getting us the ECOs and supporting the troops quietly behind the scenes, so it is just more good stuff. - tremendous credit goes to TOPS IMHO.

other companies and parties are starting to form up in support of us and maybe someday soon we will have a decent shop with a big mill and lathe and maybe a forge and we can really belt out some things that folks will enjoy, and get them to our Investors at a substantial discount, as our way of saying "Thanks."

i don't think we've had one person deal with us unfairly or be mean in any way, so we have some serious amounts of duty to fulfill - hopefully it can be seen in our products and design philosophies, at least eventually.

i see that i'm ranting yet again.

next part of the update will have some beef in it.
