Hard to believe but it's just a little over 2months until Deer season(Archery) kicks off here in Kentucky! I need a new set of Camo cloths & thought I'de ask around & see what you guys are using ?! I'm leaning towards the UnderArmour ColdGear Camo. I'm looking for something durable & water resistant. Whats your thoughts ?

I wear cabelas outfitter camo for archery. I got the fleece pants and a wool blend top. Quiet and warm. Ok in a drizzle, but not a down pour.

Honestly, I've seen and killed just as many deer when I wasn't wearing camo as I have while wearing it. The only reason I really wear camo is that it's damn hard to find decent outdoor clothing that's not camo anywhere around here.

I'm with cramsey. If a deer doesn't spot me in a 12 foot tree stand in winter, with the foliage off the trees, while wearing a big (I'm 6'1" and 250 lbs.) blaze orange vest, then why would he spot me in the fall, with more leaves on the trees, while bow hunting? Movement, scent, and noise are what alert deer. Medium dark khakis work fine.

I've been using Cabelas Max-4 (IIRC) pattern for about 5 years. Its a great pattern for our area, but its not very water resistant though. Is it needed ? I don't know. I bow hunt mainly for Elk, and always hunt from the ground. If your sittin up in a tree, not much need for it.

I rarely hunt from a tree stand. I like being on the ground with them. If I need to hide, I'll do it from the comfort of a ground blind of some kind, either natural or a pop-up. Be quiet, just like Elmer Fudd says, and that's 75% of the battle, IMO.

Yep... Its all in how you play the game. The last deer I got with my bow, I was wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt. The old guys did just fine not wearing camo.

I'm sold on asat, and it's hard to beat the leafy suit. You can wear whatever you want under it as the temps change.

hard to believe hunting season is around the corner. its the second saturday in Sept for us i think. it still 90 degrees for us through sept so i use underarmor summer gear under a short sleeved camo shirt and pants. it sounds too hot but it isnt. underarmor does not make any skin gear that is water resistant. my summer gear helps absorb the sweat which is good for me.

I used to be sold on anything in real tree or advantage patterns, but now I'm starting to do things the way my Grandaddy did. Now I wear earthy tones plain or with anything that will break up outlines(plaid, etc., etc.).

I like camo clothing for a few reasons 1. gives me the re-assurance that game won't spot me. 2. I can be sure that my wife will not wash it with other clothes. 3. I can wash/store/transport it all together and know I have everything I need and it is scent free and UV brightener free. I have multiple layers, all camo so I can peel some off when I get warm or walking to the stand and put them back on when the sun is going down and the temps drop.

btw, I have seen pictures/video of a guy who wore nothing but Hawaiian shirts while bowhunting does... shot 3 does in one sit. I don't think deer really care if it is camo or not as long as your outline is broken up.

that and the main thing is wind/scent. remember they will smell you long before they see more times than not (assuming wind direction). i focus on wind first and foremost. everything else just falls into place. if they do not smell you they approach your area calm. as long as you do not make sudden movements more often than not you have a good chance. however if they whiff you coming in they are on full alert and the hunt just got multiple times more difficult.. love bowhunting. it really puts a hunter on the edge.

Heck, archery season is nearly over in parts of Cali...

Be quiet, be still, be down wind. Take dead aim.

I just purchased an outfit of Meadalist SilverMax - Windproof, water resistant w/ scent control & it's in RealTree AP ! Should be around the middle of next week !
