Hey all,
I am new to the forum...new to knives...and most certainly don' know anythign about knife throwing.
Tha being said, I grew up in NJ with this elderly couple next door that would tell us stories about their eldest son who would go hunting with his throwing knives. I believed it when I was in high school, but now a decade later I am like "wait a minute -- is that possible? does ANYBODY do that?"

has anyone heard of anyone hunting anything with just throwing knives?

I've heard of folks hunting squirrels with rocks, I figure if you ain't got no rocks you could substitute a knife in a pinch...

It's doable, and quite a few people here have done it, and should post their experiences.

I have not.

However, it is difficult, and the consensus seems to be that it's a great way to lose a few throwing knives when you start out.

I had an old gunsmith buddy of mine in VA that killed quite a few critters with a throwing axe.
About 35 feet and anything was history.
Mostly wild dogs.
If he missed, he drew his 1911 Colt. He NEVER missed with that ;)

I'm not going to say it can't be done, but expect to lose a lot of knives until you get really good.

I did get a lucky shot in once at a squirrel (he was on the ground) with a rock. Numbed him. I think I was more shocked than he was. I had several folks watching, so I acted like it was no big thing. Truth was it was a VERY Lucky shot. As far as loseing knives; I found some bright hunter orange duct tape at Wal-Mart. I put a half strip on my blades, as it makes eye balling them much easier in the grass/dirt.
