This will be the official Hurricane update thread.

The above pic is updated very often so click reload or refresh to get the most recent pic.

I just finished locking down WOW and my House. I am in a flood zone and I have decided to stay put. Got my Jet Ski in the front yard in case I need to go to the store for more beer

Spark and myself are far enough inland that we should not get hit to bad but the real problem is not the hurricane itself. The real problem is the tornadoes it may spawn. The hurricane's sustained winds are now about 140MPH with eyewall winds around 200MPH. The storm is 2 1/2 times the size Andrew was so we are very concerned.

The good thing is the storm is moving fast and that means we will not get as much rain so flooding will not be nearly as bad.

I have been through several hurricanes and this one is by far the one which has the most potential for high levels of devastation.

Our server is located downtown and is hooked into the FDN network which has several back up systems so hoipefully we will remain up and running. The same may not be said for Spark and myself as we both use Cable modems and that may hamper our ability to get online. We both have normail dial ups but that still may not work so we ask that the moderators help us out as we may not be able to respond.

We should not receive any thing above category 1 tonight. We expect that in the morning the Eye of Floyd will be around 40-60 miles away which is pretty darn close.

So with that in mind you guys have fun while we hunker down.

Mike and Spark,
Look at this as a great opportunity to test out your Y2K readiness! Seriously, though,Keep your heads down.Hope you filled up your gas grill tanks. It`s nice to have a hot meal if the power goes out.If you lose power, there will be a major Run on ice.We found that frozen bagged veggies work just as well as ice and will be available. When they thaw, just eat`em!It`s funny, but while we grew up in West Palm,we have more hurricane experience here in NC.

best of luck,
David

Can't waste the ice on food. Need the ice to keep my White Russians cold

never a dull moment

Take care, Mike, Spark and all forumites in Floyd's path. Consider your actions well. May God be with you all.

Hi guys, I'm in Eastern NC, about 20 miles east of Raleigh. Bought a CS Master Hunter from my local gun shop. Never know, might need it.

Any excuse for a new knife.

Mike, Spark,

I know your area well having lived in Ponte Vedra Beach while stationed at Mayport during the mid-80s. The 'cane is going to raise the water level flooding the beaches. The bummer is that while the ocean will return to normal levels, the water the surge and rains have brought can not be accommodated by normal draining systems. It gets to be a real mess.

I hope you guys make out all right. My place was at 11 foot above sea level. No fun at all.

Will check for you tomorrow. Turn your fridge up to maximum cold just in case you lose power -- the beer might stay chilled a while longer that way.

Good Luck! Don't be one of those fools who decides to run around and get video of the storm.

Remeber the "Sharper than" topic a little while ago? Maybe one of you has a knife that is "sharp enough to cut a hurricane in two."

Well if there is anything you can do to slow or stop the hurricane please do!! All of us in NC are going to get slapped!! Good luck to everyone.

I spent all day Tuesday chasing Floyd all over South Florida....It's a massive storm that will bring untold destruction wherever it makes landfall.

It passed by us....keep your fingers crossed if you're on the east coast..it'll pass by you too.

Forecast to hit South Carolina..Charleston area...keep going right on up inland.

The Tropical Prediction Center of the National Hurricane Center hs all the official forecast info on-line.

But its' been a little busy lately!
