I will try to make this as short as I can. I met this person through another person. We began talking quite a bit, and we finally met. Now, I'm new at knife collecting on this level, so this person kind of took me under his wing, sort to speak. He told me to ask him before I made any purchases so I wouldn't be taken. One day we met, and we trade... I traded a $1500 Alex daniels Bowie (not disputed), he traded a Harold Corby Sub Hilt fighter that he said he paid $1200 for. I took his word on that, because I no reason not to trust him, or reason to doubt him either, because we were friends. Not so, to find out! I did a show in Raleigh, NC, and a some guy that knew H. Corby, and was very knowledgable about knives (you can just tell, he knew what he was saying), and he told me that that knife was only worth between $700 & $800. Now I new I was taking a $300 loss from the beginning (I was fine with that), but this person that I trusted, got another $400 out of me. Now, I must say that he asked me a couple of times if I wanted to renege on the deal (this is before I found out the price), and I declined; But only after asured me again that he paid $1200 for it. What really bothers me about this whole mess, is that a friend did it to me. I think he knew the whole time that he was making a fool out of me. It's easy when someone trust you, and you see it as chance to rip him off, and take advantage of the situation. This whole insident has made me very leary of knife people now, and I don't like it feeling that way!

I'm not a Winer, or a baby, all I ever asked for was honesty, and what I got was a knife in the back. Ha! Ha! a little pun. He told me he was going to send me back some of the knives that I had traded with me earlier, because he sold the Bowie. It has been a week now, and no knives. I think he should have at least kissed me, while he was... Well this is end of story.

Thanks for bearing with me, and hope all your transactions go great... Hoorrrra!

Let me add guys, that this person said he was very knowledgable int the knife field. He also told me when we traded, that he would let me know first if he were to ever sell it, and he didn't. So he wasn't even a man of his word...

Narruc, sorry to hear about this. I have enjoyed reading some of your past posts.
Just a question here,ok? While it might be true that the Corby knife is $7-800 from the maker,is it possible that he might be years backordered? I've been reading about knives for over 20 years and Corby is one of the original giants. Is there a possibility that he really did pay that much through a third party due to a demand for his knives? I'm not saying this is so, just wondering if it is a possibility. Maybe you should check with Les Robertson, I'm sure he would know approximate values of Corby knives.
Anyway, hope this works out for you in a good way.

I too, am sadened by this. But, I think that you will find that this is the exceptin rather than the rule. I've been in the knife business since 1978 and find that the knife community has the best type of people. For every bad deal there are at least ten good ones. And the fact that the knife may have changed hands a few times. The guy that you did this deal with may have taken it "in the back" also and not know it.
