I got bit tonight

Do you folks juggle your Izulas? How are you cutting yourselves?

My little girl got bit. She didn't get it bad, but she lost focus and didn't respect the knife for what it was. She does now. She's 8.

Good luck brother, I hope you heal fast and well.

DH1, this has got to be about the 5th or 6th one I have read just in the 4 months I have been on the forum. With this track record, I a little leary about even messing with the two my wife got for Christmas.
ryanr256, hope everything is ok as well as it can be.
Be safe.

We need pics. :D

Seriously though... here is to a speedy recovery. It has tasted your blood. You are now one with your Izula. :D

The usual cause is wrapping the handle of an Izula with paracord without first making SURE the blade is secure. There are many threads like this, some with slightly gruesome pictures.

...where are the pics? cant make a thread without pics

Can't do pics at the moment. Sorry.

Was wrapping the handle, got to the end, pulled the cord to make it tight. Big mistake. The izzy popped out of the sheath and sliced my hand.

Nurse is here.

smflorkey, didn't Cricket Dave really slice his two fingers doing the same thing & post pictures with the stitches??? Even if that bad boy is in the sheath, I think I would duct tape or electrical tie of making sure it could not pop out. Better safe than sorry.
Be safe.

No need for the ER -- just use one of the inner strands from the paracord you were wrapping your Izzy with, and stitch 'er up!

JK, unless it's a true survival situation, of course. Stay safe out there. . . .

I'm sure we could find many examples in a pleasant evening of browsing the ESEE subforum. I have a foggy memory of Cricket Dave in that situation.

As for taping an Izula in its sheath before wrapping, at least two members have reported their Izulas slipping out of the sheath just before "bonding" with their owners. :o The best suggestion I saw was to tape the bare blade then clamp it in a suitable vise to be certain it was muzzled. :D THEN and only then, proceed to apply paracord in whatever pattern strikes your fancy.

I had to learn the hard way myself but I got VERY lucky and didn't need stitches.

Here's mine from a month ago. I got lucky and didn't hit the tendon. It was close though. All healed up now, still tingles a bit from time to time which I'm sure will fade.

My Izula gave me 5 stitches on my thumb on Christmas Eve. I was wrapping it and out it came through my thumb.

Heal quickly and be safe, as for everyone else doing a wrap,,,,,,, oh never mind its been said a thousand times:eek::(:D..
JK be safe all...

This is EXACTLY the way I cut bit. 4 stitches in my trigger finger.

Remove the knife from the sheath and wrap the blade in tape folks! We need to make this a sticky or something! :D
