Who doesn’t love coming home to a package…..with a Knife in it!?
I swear, Dale at T-K-C must have some hold over the USPS because his shipping is crazy fast! Thanks Dale for another smooth transaction!
I wanted to share some excitement and do some comparison shots before I pass out…
My Izula gets all the fun…
Unpacked and ready to be fondled until which time I may beat it into something.
What a fine looking lady she is…oh # 4082
Being a Beckerhead I can’t help but compare…..
End of cutting edge at the same line, the belly rolls up on my BK2 faster than the 5. The 5 has much more of a pronounced tip.
Annnnnnnd because its late and the wife would kill me if I took these both out and made some noise a little handle comparison anyone?
The swell at the end of the BK2, in my modest opinion makes it much easier to get a good grab on and start chopping, as evident in the pic below….
Having never held the 5 before I was worried that I had been spoiled by my BK2 in that I wouldn’t like the ergos that the 5’s handle would offer. I was surprised however that by taking the same basic hand position I could achieve the same feeling (sans the “ball”
and grippyness (wassa?). Could it be the scales? Prolly. I found that by putting the meat of my pinky in the lanyard hole I was able to get some added grip…Mind you that I would generally use gloves and or a lanyard around the wrist when chopping.
They both have the same weight and feeling in this gripped position….they also pretty much have the same balance point from what I could tell….(please don’t mind the cord…earphones)
What about sheathing? Both of these are taken at the “belt line” to see their particular sitting position on the belt. (Stock sheathing….)
The 5 slides right in (no retention tho) to the Beckers sheath…
Noooot so much the other way…
As a disclaimer I will say these things…
- This was all taken after a very long day with my iPhone 4
- Opinions contained are based on me NOT being able to whack away at anything with the 5 yet….
- This was never meant as a “which one is better” nor will I join in that debate….Loves 'em both I do..
The BK2 is my go to “outside” knife and I have carried it as much as possible (and used it in places I prolly shouldn’t). It is unmatched at its functionality and durability at its price point, could easily sell for more.
I am impressed (again) at Rowen Mfg for their attention to detail. Grinds are clean and level on both sides (naked eye) and the tip/grind angles are top notch. Really a perfectly crafted knife.
Originally I was concerned I wouldn’t like the handles on the 5 because I really like the Becker ones, again no debate for me but I was very happy with the 5’s handles. I will hopefully have time this weekend to try out the bow drill and some chopping.
I REALLY like the jimping on the 5.
Once again another satisfying purchase.
Jeff – Mike, again thanks for making a solid, well built product. Gonna have to run her through the paces over the next few weeks, and couldn’t be happier.
Thanks for checking this out.
