Yesterday, I got the Buck March Newsletter along with the Buck Catalog. The March newsletter seemed like it came with slightly better quality paper, at least it seemed better to me. Good articles, CJ wrote about some new knives. In the catalog I saw the tactical knives like the Nighthawk go under the Tops name. I heard CJ say a few years ago, he wanted Buck to get out of the tactical knives and be more in the family and hunting type knives. That is why, I was surprised by the Buck Hoodlum.

I thought maybe it might be under the Tops name, but no, it is a Buck. I don't know if I would call it a tactical knife, maybe a extreme survival machete type knife. I think it is a neat knife, just a little surprised by it.

I also like the idea they are going to make the 113 as a regular production run. They also had a Yellowhorse 113 which I really liked. (The 113 is kind a like a fixed blade 112.)

Anyway, the March newsletter is not on-line yet, so if you haven't got it yet, keep looking in your mail box for it.

Well, I'm expecting two knives in the mail today, so.......

:D

The Newsletter will just make things more perfect!

And I would applaud C.J. in that he wants to get away from tactical knives, but I question whether a knife company can stay in business without a hand in the tactical market. Without the urban segment, you lose a significant share.

I also think that while the "Hoodlum" is a fine example of a particular type of knife--the NAME "Hoodlum" is a bad mistake.

Hoodlum does not fit with the Buck family name.

This is not a knife that I have a use for, but I know some do. The knife itself seems excellent and qualifies as a Buck in my estimation (as a heavy duty camping and survival knife) but the name just ruins it.

I'm fine with Buck branching out. I just hate to see a Buck called a Hoodlum with all the negative vibes the word Hoodlum brings to mind.

Hopefully they will call it something else.

Ok, there's room on my bandwagon for EVERYBODY.

:D

I think they should call it the Fort Hood.

I suppose the way to do this would be for 110 Dave to sponsor a contest with a knife giveaway for the best name idea.

With regards to the catalog, is it just me, or did Buck update their website with new models very recently? The hoodlum is on there as are the Solitaires. I don't recall seeing them but I might have missed it. Specifically, these are located under the "New Products" link. I apologize in advance if this is old news. Just curious.

Along with the newsletter arrived2011 Dealer Catalog, 2011 price list and the legacy collection for 2011.

Ohhhlala. Much to like, lust after, here. Exciting for me.

Dealer catalog, gotta have: 110 Chairman Series Cheerywood Dymondwood with CB's signature across the scale and nicikel silver hardware with 420HC blade (see this one online in the new products section of Buck's online shop). Deep blue EcoLite Vantage with Paperstone handles and 430HC drop point blade (deep blue color looks like lapis in the catalog).

Legacy Collection: Everything strikes my fancy: Wilde Bill's elk antler turkey feather folding hunder with mirror 420HC blade, Yellow Horse Bull Elk Vantage with gold web bloody jasper and partial chip flint satin 420HC blade, Painted Pony Bucklock, Jigged Buffalo Skinner 103 and the Bos Paradigm with black damascus steel and charcoal dymondwood handle.

Need to study these pictures for awhile...

Today.

Looks like nobody paid any attention to you.

Envy does not become you, Plumberdv.

:D

Just joshing you, old bean. Looks like you were complaining about this long ago......and kudos to you.

I really like the Painted Pony 303. They usually do the 301, not the smaller knife. The look of the 532 & 303 Painted Pony remind me a lot of the special Heritage collection that was one of a kind and was auctioned off at the SMR last year. I remember seeing it once or twice, so I could be way off, but they seem to be similar.

I am glad some other members are getting there news letters.

Newsletters are mailed from the San Francisco area so, generally speaking, members in the west receive theirs earlier than those of us in the east. I would expect everyone to have them be the end of next week (except for USPS goof-ups).

Got my packet yesterday. I'm also interested in the Chairman 110 and some others as well as a couple of the Legacy pieces, the B&C 120 and a little stacked leather fixed blade.
