I bought a SPECWAR a few years ago and it was
totally weak.I chipped the blade and broke off part of the tip just doing some basic survival practice.I chopped wood and dug fire pits over the course of a week long survival/camping trip and that was the most dissapointing "high end"knife I have ever bought(I paid almost $300 for the POS too!)I took the thing to a guy with a belt grinder had him regrind and polish it and I palmed it off on a cop at the local gunshow for a couple of Glock mags.I had a matching Benchmade that was really nice thought and it's still in use by a friend of mine overseas.

BTW I'm not trying to get flamed or anything and I was very fond of the one sided grind and what had to be the most effective knife handle I have ever held but I just had such a bad experience with it I was surprised to see people still wanted them or even that they were still made period.

At first I thought you were using a small folder to dig holes and to chop wood but, upon reading your other posts, It seems to me that you are talking about the Emerson/Neely Specwar that was produced by Timberline.

This knife was designed by Ernie but was not manufactured by him. I have seen a handmade version of this knife but it is probably the only one in existence.

Please feel free to check out our website and take a look at what Emerson Knives Inc. is producing. Still might not be your cup of tea but they are very good knives.

Take care,
Derek

I have 2 Timberline SpecWars and I love them! I carried mine in the Smokey Mt. for a week, and my only compliant was the weight! I used mine to dig holes, cut "small" limbs for firewood, and shelter stakes. When I got it home, it was fine, other than it needed sharpening. I bought the second, just in case I broke, or lost the 1st. I have moved on to a Junglee Hattori fighter to conserve weight, but the SpecWar was great. As far as the actual Emerson brand "production" knives, I own 6 and they are great, I have NEVER had a problem at all! Sorry to hear you were not saisfied with your purchase.

I also had one of those bad boys. The handle was not my cup of tea but I liked the basic design. The end for me was when the knife used to cut me when I pressed the button to realease the blade , ohhhhhch. I ended up getting rid of it. I still want to get custom Emerson Fixed blade. Anyone want to get rid of one? INFINOO

I thought the Timberline Specwar was supposed to be the proverbial 'sharpened, nearly-indestructable prybar' of the production fixed blades. Hmmm, ... Maybe the Q.C. was off that day.

I have a Timberline Specwar..I used in the jungle and it performed very well..I have to agree it's a bit heavy..But I let the weight do the work for me when cutting..I did not have to exhert too much energy.
