Went to Ed Caffrey's shop last night. What an experience. I watched him heat treat some blades and work on damascus. Actually handled his "Coin Spinner". What a work of art

Checked out his test blade for his Mastersmith. Talk about beauty in a bent blade. Very knowlegable, helpful and friendly. A person who is truely into knife making to benefit the art.

Now I got the itch. Need to find a chunk of steel for an anvil and a hammer. Knife making will never be the same

I agree, going to an ABS Mastersmith's shop is very motivational. I have been to Dave Ellis's shop and also V.J. McCrackin's. Both were very helpful and friendly. Another way to get some motivation is to watch the video called "Craft of the Japanese Sword" with Yoshindo Yoshihara(spelling?). In this video, he starts out in what looks like a perfectly white Karate uniform and ends up totally covered in black. He even starts the forge fire in the traditional manner by hammering on a thin piece of iron and turning the iron, repeating this rapidly until it gets red hot and then uses the red hot iron piece to light some tinder material. Talk about a lot of trouble! What ever happened to matches or a lighter? After watching this video, in which he forges out an awesome sword, you really get the urge to go out and hammer on some steel!

I'm jealous, Ed wears a white hat, he's always been verry helpful here and on his forum.
