I've got a couple of 12 inch AK blems that Yangdu tells me are blems due to handles not being perfect. I looked at them without my glasses and can't see the blems.

Call or email if interested. If you want to see pix I'll post some but if I can't see the blems without glasses the camera won't see them either.

Tell me they're both Durba's just to chap Jim's hide!:p :p :p

Sorry so slow, but got the shakes and hit every wrong key I could emailing you! You'd think I was nervous or something.:D

Kesar is fine.

Far as the Durba - HEY TSIMI:
:p NYAH :p NYAH :p NYAH :p !!!

( Don't you love the elevated intellectual level of the forum ? )

Actually, I thrive on the intellectual level we find in the HI forum. And, Kesar is as good as they get. We don't call him old faithful for nothing.

Remember, Harry sometimes calls to ask the deal of the day before Uncle Bill has his second cup of coffee. Needless to say, the UBDOTD never gets posted if Harry's fancy gets tickled. On the other hand, ( the hasiya ) if I stop by I've been known to walk out the cantina with something with Harry's name on it.

I think once a UBDOTD went in one minute flat. Just remember that the official time is the first phone call or email, not a posting on the forum. So Uncle had to put it up, I had to finish the thread I was reading and reload, and then send him an e-mail. Then I went back and posted on the forum, which isn't too back for three minutes.

Bill,
Sooo glad the 12"Durba is going to Rus, couldn't be happier!
 :( :( :(As you can tell I'm overjoyed! How come THAT NDN gets back THEN you put up UBDOTD's & you know who gets NOT ONE but two??grumble, mutter, but it's not bothering me!Of all people Rus!!Oh brother!!

Nah, she's flirting with Al ( Ley Cat ) I'm sure the 16.5" WWII Bura will win out though.

What it is, is the baby AK ( I have one blem that got cleaned up enough to use ) is just so friendly and willing, you don't want to leave him home, just like the puppy that always jumps into the truck. And yes, I do have a 20" Sirupati behind the truck seat. But the baby AK rides next to me to slide on my belt when I get out.

They arrived this morning.

Interesting to compare. Blades are virtually identical in length, discounting the habaki portion of the bolster. Right at 8 1/4"

Spine thickness at bolster are:

1) 12" #184 AK = 16/32nds (1/2").
2) 12" Prakesh Sirupati = 13/32nds.
3) 12" Durba AK = 12/32nds (3/8th").
4) 12" Kesar AK = 12/32nds (3/8ths") but within an inch has tapered to 10/32nds (5/16ths").
5) 12" Sirupati ( Audrey ) = 10/32nds (5/16ths").

I listed in 32nds to keep it all in the same measure, then added the commonly used ( / ) measure.

Oddly, 1&2 feel right together, as choppers, and
4&5 feel right together as slicers. The Durba (3) doesn't seem to belong in either group - but could be paired with 2 or 4 I suppose. Somehow it feels like the odd man out.

A little late to be adding this, but even though blems, I should report the quality of these two is up substantially over half a year ago. Beautifully done. More like gorgeous.

My old model 12" AK must have been a Sher. Just under 1/2" spine. Darn it! Can't make up my mind whether the old clunker or the new lovelies are better. The new ones are better all purpose, the old one is a better chopper.

Quality has been steadily improving all the way from day one. I looked at one of our first efforts at BirGorkha and we have come a long way.

I'd bet some kamis show up looking for a job, see what's coming out lately, and then don't even bother asking. It's a whole different ballgame.
