Ok I got the gun the knife the watch the wallet etc.
now I need a cool pen to jot things down with.
Any suggestions as to what the kool new tactical pen is?
is Mount Blanc still the king?
I need a little help here.

Wow, I never though my "other" hobby would cross over here, but.....

A Tactical Pen? I take it from your use of this term that you are not looking for a nice fountain pen, but something rugged that will take a bit of a pounding and that you can carry anywhere with you.
I can reccomend two manufactures and a couple of models.

Fisher Space Pens are still the granddaddies of the "go anywhere-do anything" pen. The Bullet model is very small and carries very easily. The Millenium is a little bigger (good for big hands), garanteed never to run out of ink, and comes in some nicer finishes. But, it runs for one hundred dollars or more while the Bullet's go between 20- 40. I had to stop carrying Millenium's after I lost two of them:(
Rotring makes a line called the 600 line, that are built like tanks, milled aluminum, a variety of finishes and you can get them in rollerball, ball point and fountain pen varieties. They run from 100 and up.

I'll second the recommendation for the Fisher Bullet pen. I carry one in a black titanium nitride finish. It looks nice, writes well, and appears to be indestructible. Great pocket pen!

My other favorite is the Retro 51 Tornado. I use a Palm PDA constantly, so I carry the "data pen" variant that has a stylus tip in addition to the pen. I also replaced the pen cartridge with a Fisher Space Pen refill.

I find that pens just round everything off nicely, and you have a good question here, as I am also a pen collector. I carry a fountain pen because I am a Management Consultant and walk around in a suit all day. My favourite here is a Waterman Carene fountain pen. Very hardy and attractive as it has a brass barrell and cap both lacquered. The nib is 18ct solid gold. For wilderness/hiking excurssions or going outdoors, I carry my Rotring which as mentioned earlier, is very hardy and is a rollerball.

My next purchase is a Fisher Space Pen, probably the best choice here.:)

Check out the Fisher Economy pens (Go to Products, Economy.). At the bottom of the page you will find the Matte Black Military Space Pen, which has become my regular stash-them-everywhere writing implement.

They click out and back in by pushing the top of the barrel down, no buttons, no pulling off a cap. These were developed to be the military's standard issue.

I also carry a Bullet pen in my Mission Wallet, and keep another one with my checkbook.

The Rotring 600 series is phenomenal, and write beautifully. The fountain pen is exceptionally smooth. But they make a better desk set than pocket pens; they just weigh too much. There is a slim-line, high-capacity ballpoint that I used a lot, and the red ink-blue ink-pencil is handy, too, but the ink refills are minimal capacity.

The big ballpoint with a Fisher refill is the best tactical pen I can imagine, massive and durable.

There is a "Weapons grade, Tactical Pen" coming. It's a project taken on by a well known knife maker.

The project is supposed to be done in under three months. It'll be damn near solid Ti all the was around (except the actual pen insert) and designed for defensive purpose carry where you can't normally take "traditional weapons".

I saw the Prototypes at the Guild show and they'll knock your socks off.

Trust me, you'll see more on this soon.

If I read another thread about cool stuff I'm going to go broke.

I hope these Fisher pens are everything you say. I just bought 2.

I'm really intrigued by the upcoming well-known knifemaker's tactical pen. However, early scuttlebutt I've read had it in the $150-200 range.

Ouch. :( That's really steep, and I have a feeling that it'll be out of the price range of a majority of people who would have otherwise wanted one.

I'll have to pass for now, thanks.

Fishers make great everyday pocket pens. I've had one for quite some time now, and have yet to be bored with it. I'd toyed with the new Cross Ion for a short time, but it's not as streamlined at the Fisher, and I'm not a real gel-ink fan.

For a more "tactical" oriented pen, I'll recommend the Rotring 600 Series. Especially the previous generation style with the knurled bottom barrel segment. The bodies are plated brass, and have (on the earlier ones) short noses or extensions at the tip which could also be used in interesting and effective ways to disuade ne'er-do-wells.

A pen and pencil set can be had in the $50 range.

Thanks for the input guys, I think I'll try a fisher first I think that it will fit my leo uniform pocket pretty nicelyand it comes in black. By the way is there a website like this for pen collectors?

I hear you Gadget54, I cannot keep up with all the cool gear I don't need but want to get anyway. One has to deveop deep pockets for such items. Like GPS, etc etc etc and of course the radios, watches, pens, knives, gear etc. LOLOLOL.

Phew!!!

Harley,
Check out Penhero.com for a pensite with a great links page. I'd recommend a pelikan fountain pen if you are looking for a new model. Vintage pens write as well and sometimes better than new pens, and you can do a lot of research on those as well. The Parker 51 is nearly bomb-proof and I recommend it highly.
Mont blanc is one of those brands that gets as many negative reviews as positive ones. Its kind of like Rolex, or maybe sebenzas. Read up and decide for yourself.

I mentioned the Bullets first because

1) They work, all the time, everytime.
2)They carry nice and small
3)They are cheap, if you lose it your won't be out a bundle.

Now those Tighe pens are SUPER nice! I guess if you're going to start out right, it might as well be near the top. Wish MY pelikan was covered in mammoth ivory. :(
I've heard nothing but good things about Tighe pens, but I've never gotten to see one in person. If Grayson is reading this and has some samples he needs evaluated, please email me.

Personally, I carry my Fisher Bullet Pen wherever I go. But right now, I'm going to order one of the Rotring 600 just for this summers vacation to Disney world where you have to surrender your knives :(

the Rotring 600 series pens. I've had one (black-matte) for about 3 years, and just started the second refill in it. Ordered three new refills, shipping and everything is $ 17.00. The pens are tough and you would really have to try to bang 'em up. The clip is also very sturdy, no breaking it unless you really try, also. Stinky

Which Knife maker is making the Tactical pen that all the rumours are about?
Any more details or photos?
