My casio crapped out on me a couple days ago....

And the $500 Suunto I have is being replaced (battery problem) - they're sending a new unit...but who knows how long till it gets here.

I am watch-free....and no, it's not a good thing...

According to my significant other...I have NO concept of time. :D

So....

I'm in the market for a new watch.

Right upfront....I'm not crazy about Seiko...or anything analog, for that matter.

I am a Techno-Geek...I love gadgets....I carry a SwissChamp XLT for cryin' out loud. :D

So, short of this PDA Watch on thinkgeek.com - got any suggestions?

:D

Thanks!

Dan

I took one look at that PDA watch and :barf:eded. LOL

Own a lot of watches but my personal favorite presently are....

Debaufre Airforce and my Marine Diver Auto PVD . You can find the PVD under New Releases.

I own several Tag Heuer, Suunto, etc as well but these two above are my daily wearers.

ever hear of a -TIMEX

10 bucks and it will last till you get yours back and then some-lol

I got a timex expedition with a digital compass and bubble leveler on clearance for $16. I love it.

I have a Citizen Eco-Drive Chronograph Titanium and I love it. No battery-Titanium Bracelet-all of the Chrono dials, for around $500.00. Take a look at them. Thanks, Jason

Not that I could ever afford one but I have handled a few breitlings, simply outstanding.

Get a Casio G-Shock Atomic Solar watch. They are the toughest watches in the world, bar none. I have 3 of them and they are absolutely bulletproof and you never have to calibrate the time or replace the battery. Plus they are 200 meter water resistant. I am pretty rough on watches, and the G-Shocks are the only ones that have lasted me. I can't break the damn things. They are absolutely awesome. Here is the one that I received for my birthday last week. It is a Multi band Atomic tough solar. That means that it can receive an atomic signal from pretty much anywhere in the world to calibrate the watch to that time zone. It is model AWG100-1A.

Here is a pic of my actual watch,

Seriously, get a G-Shock. You won't be sorry.

I have never been a fan of the G-Shock series...but looks like they're improving. Where's the best place to get one?

Those Breitlings are pretty cool...the Emergency model looks interesting.

I'd really like to have a stopwatch as well as a timer, by the way.

My favorite is the Timex Ironman 30 lap. You already have techno-gizmo covered with the Suunto, so this is one you can abuse and loose:

All of the buttons are well placed, and the best feature is that you can go forward or backward in setting the time, date, etc., unlike some watches that only let you go forward. I actually use all of the features - light, stopwatch, timer, alarm, and second time zone (for local time when traveling). There are a bunch of Ironman models with slightly different features. This one has the orange logo on the band and only 2 time zones. Widely available for less than the listed price at Walmart, K-mart, etc. If you prefer, I think they also have the exact same watch with a nylon band.

G-Shocks are tough but they aren't invincible. Mine died after, I guess, a couple of years. Tough Solar Wave Ceptor, their latest & greatest. I've had other Casios hold up way longer.

I just put a new battery in my Traser (manufacturer of Luminox). I got it second hand, never babied it, it never flinched. But it's just an analog with a date, no chronograph functions.

Citizen ecodrive might be the way to go. I have one for ten years and still keeps going strong!A digital model is the best way to go on timers and chronos as they are easier to read. Those with pointers are a bit harder to read and takes longer. I have a Breitling and Gevril chronos in automatic but I usually got to my digital citizen when I want to time something. I buy my watches from a friend who owns a watch place.

Which Suunto do you have? I sold off my Vector a year or so ago, and really jonesin' for the Core model now.

Casio Pathfinder PAW1300T
All the virtues of the G-Shock with more functionality. (some of which you'll probably never use, but the combo of atomic, solar, stopwatch, several alarms, and a countdown timer are perfect)

amazon has it and maybe other places have it cheaper...

Timex Ironman.

Not only has lap and stopwatch, but it will do intervals. So you can set it to beep at intervals of 10 seconds, then 60 seconds, then 10 seconds, and so on. It's awesome for fartlek sprints. It keeps you on a nice steady pace.

So.. er... in your world you could set it for a 10 minute Bushcraft knife grind, then a 1 minute rest, then a 10 minute Bushcraft knife grind, and so on. It could do WONDERS for your production time!

Those Breitlings are pretty cool...the Emergency model looks interesting.

I know some people with the Aerospace, pretty amazing it seems to ooze quality. Also, being titanium its ridiculously light, you hardly notice you're wearing it!
Still I'd find it hard to justify spending so much on a watch, knowing me, I'd just loose the thing:o
