I have a customer that wants a knife sent to Germany, can any of you tell me the best way to ship it, to make sure it gets there safely.

Thanks,

Bill

Bill, We are always sending things to our daughter in Japan and go threw the USPS. UP's goes there and the other big name one also. My daughter has always got we sent her threw USPS....

Bill, I don't do much overseas, but I remember someone saying Federal Express was good.
Having just sent some stuff to England recently, all I can say is, it's very expensive shipping things there(Europe).

I'm going to contact a fellow forumite from Germany, and see if he can add something to this.

I just sent something USPS "Global." It got there pretty quickly and only cost around $25.

Hey Mike -

That wouldn't be a small amount of nickel silver you just sent, would it?

Peter

I never ordered anything directly from the US (I always buy American production knives from German online retailers), but I ran a quick search on a German knife discussion board: click here. The mails that Klaus exchanged with Joe Houser and German Parcel's representative are in English (in case you need a translation of any of the German comments made in that thread, just e-mail me).
German Parcel is USPS' German partner. Basically they didn't wanna ship a Buck 560 because they labeled it as a weapon (according to German weapon legislature it's not).

That's why I would stay away from USPS.

I didn't find a lot of feedback on FedEx, but what I've read was positive.

I hope this helps.

Funny. I got many knives directly from the USA. The best in my experience is USPS Global Priority or Express. Never had a problem. USPS sends all GP and Express packages from Europe to Germany first (my knives arrived to France through Germany too) and the delivery time is from 3 to 10 days (again, from my experience).
The worst was UPS. They almost sent one of my packages back after three delivery attempts without leaving a note! I was lucky I got the tracking number and saw on their web page what happened so I could call and make them hold the package. Still had to drive like 1 hour to get it myself.

Peter, yes, it was shipped on 12-6 03(June 12)It should be arriving anytime now. They said 6-8 weeks.

Thanks Guys, global express was the way I was planning on sending, sounds like it should be good. What about labeling for customs, anyone have any problems having anything stole if labeled camp knife, or would a person be better off to label camp tool. etc. Any advice .

Thanks

Bill

Bill, I just sent one to Dierdorf, Germany 22 bucks and change USPS Air. Just said it was culinary sample.
