Just got home from the Montana show in Missoula. On friday night during the BBQ at Wendle Barnes house,I took the Master Smith performance test and Passed! Ya Hoo!! Thanks goes out to Ed Caffrey and Shane Taylor for observing and signing my certificate.

The test consists of making a 10" damascus blade and cutting a 1" free hanging rope with one thrust, Chop a construction grade 2"x4" board in half twice without any deformations or chips to the edge, still shave arm hair and finally bend it in a vice to 90 degrees. My edge cracked slightly at about 89 degrees but didnt crack even half way across.

Next comes the judging of 5 finished knives in Atlanta Blade Show in June next year.

I just wanted my buddies to know. Bruce B

Bruce,
That's gotta be a nail biter! Especially the 90 bend...? Were your eyes flinching with every little creekle and crackle as you made the bend?

Congrats...now breathe!

Sincerely,
Rob

I think it's great Bruce....but like I said to the other Bruce person....Was there ever any doubt!:D

The 2x4 test sounds impressive but I once made a knife that UGLYed a 30 foot Beech tree down. That was in the early days before I invented controlled linear fisson!

Way to go Bruce! I can't wait for Blade next year, I'll definitly try and look you up and see those test knives! (Maybe I'll have joined the A.B.S. by then.)

Congrats!

You must be doing something right, the fish, now the Master Smith!

Don't think the knife judging will be a problem.

Con grats Bruce
I'd try her out but I'd chew my fingers off,
then cut my legs off being nervous.:(

That is fantastic news Bruce! After all the amazing knives you've posted in the past there was no doubt in my mind that you had the stuff. Way to go! :)

Glad to see you passed the biggie. What steels did you use in the damascus? Look forward to seeing you in Atlanta :).

'...holds the nunchucks in front of his opponent, whips it around with lightning speed and taunts the guy to attack..."

"WOOH...WHOAAHHH!"
