I went back and forth on making this thread just because its a Cryo, it was cheap and I just cant hold it to the high standard of many of my knives. I sent my Cryo in for warranty service for having a decent amount of up and down blade play. I know that KAI has an amazing warranty program so I didnt have a second thought that everything was going to be just fine. I got my knife back and was happy to see the blade play had been taken care of but I heard a clicking sound and noticed that the LBS was loose, no biggie Ill tighten it and we will be great!

Fast forward to actually going to fix it, I noticed the screw wouldn't screw down any tighter (I didnt try to gorilla it, something didnt feel right) I backed the screw out and saw metal shavings around the hold and thought crap its cross threaded. The screw wont thread straight no matter how many times I try.

Here is how it sits and as far as it threads

Also for some silly reason someone put so much thread locker on the pocket clip screws that it did this to my husky driver

And I also noticed this inconsistency in the coating. Admittedly this is nit picking but hell while were at it...

I get that I may be nit picking because its such an inexpensive knife. I KNOW KAI's warranty service is, bar none. I am just frustrated that I have to send it in again to get this issue sorted.

If I can avoid sending it in I'd like to. If anyone has any ideas feel free to chime in!

i agree the 1st problem is unacceptable. the second is a pain but can be fixed by heating the screws up to lossen the glue...the third....really:rolleyes:.....hope everything works out for ya.

Most likely its just the screw that has damaged threads. Check if you can( i know it's small) the threads on the frame and see if they are ok. If so, just call up warranty and ask for a new lbs set. They should send you one.

If all else fails and you don't want to send it back in, you can try to run a tap through the LBS hole to straighten the threads out. Same for the LBS screw, run it through a thread reviver.

I don't think your "inconsistency in the coating" is not the coating. I think what you are seeing is a scale that was die punched and this is more of a unfinished area from the punch process. I have 2 NIB I just looked at and they are both the same in that area of your pictures. It's a $30 knife, so they used a die to punch out scales rather than cut them out, saves money.

Sorry to hear about your issues with the Cryo.

Originally I was excited about this knife - I have more Kershaws than any other manufacturer - but at this point I'm going to have to pass.

Why so quick to judge? Seems like the vast majority is in love with this knife. Every knife and company for that matter have a few that slip through with small problems (It is a china knife). Just curious how you came to that decision?

This is absurd. The Cryo negative feedback has been next to silent.

What are you basing this off of?

It's a $30 knife, it is not going to be perfect. I tried to switch mine to tip up carry and they forgot to thread the holes....oh well I'll have to do it myself. I am not mad, it is a great deal! This knife makes me want the ZT0550 even more! I tried to deassist it, but it is too small for me to flip without assist. There are things that they could change, but it is such a great value that you can mod and not be worried about messing it up because you can get another for cheap. I am sorry if I jacked thread, I just thought that it needed some positive outlook.
