Hello my friends.I'm new to sheaths and I'm asking you guys for help. I need a inexpensive sheath for my Son Of Dogfather to take it hiking and camping. A sheath that can fit on my belt but not too heavy. I was thinking nylon although I'm open to other materials. Thank you.

After looking at the specs on the knife, I'd go with a kydex. With it having only a 4 1/2" blade at 3/16" thick, a 0.06 gade kyex would be sufficient. A little masking tape wrapped on the handle during the press time should prevent the Resiprene from getting too warm and still offer good hold into the sheath.

I did a sheath for a guy last week for a blade with similar handle material which had a smooth texture and it worked great.

The resiprene handles will not be affected by the heat from your Kydex during the press. I have done many Swamp Rat Knives and have never had problems with the heat, and have heard this from other makers as well.

Kydex is a great all weather material and is quite easy to clean as well.

Kydex is nice, but it you want a cheap sheath check out the 6" condura sheath on the Scrapyard website, it will fit your SOD.

The Spec-Ops sheaths work great, just make sure to get the longer size.

Seriously. A little heat from a hair dryer, and the fit is perfect. PERFECT. No movement, whatsoever. Good retention, and draws smoothly.

The sheath is also quite versatile, and without the need to have something custom made.

The SOD is a rather large knife at 7,5 not 4,5.

Check out Martin's kydex and leather combinations, they are amazing but rather expensive (around 120 US$).
