I would greatly appreciate any iformation on Gene Baskett, his knives, pictures, etc.
I once owned a lock back folder made by him and miss the knife more than any other I've owned! The knife has been in the possesion of an ex-girlfriend for about 10 years and I don't think I will ever see it again

The knife was purchased at a rather large gun/sporting goods store in Merriden CT. I know he had to have sold his knives through dealers.
Thanks!
Neil

Neil,
Gene lives about 15 miles away. He has a full time job and still makes knives part time. His phone number is listed in the Knives Annuals. He is a Knifemaker Guild member so he is listed on their site.

Some of the best filework I've ever seen. As far as I know, his best folder is the lockback that uses the .45 auto grips for the handles.

He still makes that 45 auto grip style knife. He showed me one at the NY show saturday. And that gun store in Middlefield CT. still carries his knives and they have one of the 45. models in stock. It's called Cubetas field and stream.

ALLLLRIGHT!!
Thanks everyone!
I seem to remember the 45 handled ones but the one I have or HAD

is not made like that. The lock bar ended beyond the butt of the knife with a lanyard hole it it. My knife had some kind of sheep horn on the handle and YES,,,,, NICE FILEWORK!!
I will contact him, probably after the holidays and holiday expenses are over. I would LOVE to have one made to replace my 'LOST" one!!

Neil: I am laughing as I read this post-I had dinner with Gene Baskett at the NY Custom Knife Show, just last week. And, Garry Terra, who runs Cubetta's Field and Stream (860-347-4353) is one of my best friends.
No doubt he picked up a few of the Colt 45 folders from Gene at the show. Gene is a nice guy and makes nice, unique knives.

Good luck--

RJ

IIRC, it was called (at one time, anyway) the "Officer's Model". Very unique knife.
I agree with Kwaiken, hunt it down and get it back!

Ferret,
Thanks for the address, YES you win

Other makers including Florida's own Roger Gamble have made 45 grip handled knives. Maybe Gene was the first?? Neat idea anyway

Mine was not that model, it was slightly smaller.
