I don't live in or near Missouri and I am not a lawyer but the on-line resources that I access seem to say that in Missouri the knife must be concealed to be illegal. That would seem to say that a fixed blade would be OK if it were worn openly. Am I wrong on that? In that sense the restrictions are similar in California. In Missouri, there also appears to be a question of what is a "dagger" (which is explicitely outlawed if concealed).

Penal Code 571.030
A person commits the crime of unlawful use of a weapon if he knowingly carries concealed on or about his person a knife.
I take this to mean the knife can be concealed on one's person and be illegal. I also take it to mean that if you carry a knife about your person, whether concealed or not, it is illegal.
the same also says exhibiting in a threatening or angry manner is illegal. Seems to me SD would fall into that category.
You might be right about the concealed issue, but I would not push it. Maybe a lawyer or someone with solid backing for their interpretation could enlighten us.

I've been told that in California "concealed" is the key word. When hiking, I generally carry a fixed blade and I make sure that it is not concealed.
