Hi :o I am a first time poster on this forum and for a good reason primarily to find some info on some knives and fellowship amongst collectors! I have in my possession a Spyderco "Native" folder but I think this just might be a rare version as it was pointed out by another person! The markings on the blade are different then any he has seen before! The blade is a partially serrated version and the blade engraving says its made of "GIN-1" Stainless steel on the other side it says "Golden, Colorado, U.S.A. EARTH" is this truly a rare model as I have not seen one of these before I have had this for about 10 years I think maybe less but it has sat in my dresser drawer for years I never really used it does this have any value???? If so let me know!

Hi Denny, the C41 Native was introduced around '98, and originally used GIN-1. That only lasted a year or so, when the steel changed to 440V. The steel changed again, around '03 to S30V.

While it would not meet my personal definition of "rare" your GIN-1 Native is definitely the least common version. Not sure how many each were made in part-serrated and plain edged, or which was more common, but don't think there were a singificantly larger quantity of one than the other.

The general rule with Spydercos is that they hold their value fairly well. While the Natives do not inspire the same type of bidding frenzies that some other Spyderco model do, there is enough collector interest in them that a boxed GIN-1 specimen in "as new" condition would probably bring a bit more than a brand new one would sell for.

Well thank you for the very informative post Deacon this info is really interesting and you have perfectly described my knife! Now being I am Not Gold membership participant and cannot post knives in the For Sale section do you think anyone would be iterested in this speciman I have? Its in New condition no scratches or marks on it at all sat for most of its life in a dresser drawer I carried it a few times and have a box for it don't really remember if this is the original or not but I'm sure its a worth addition to some :) ones collection do you know anyone who would be?

I guess it would depend on the person, but myself being a native fan, i can assure you that someone is always looking for a native. I might be interested, but at the moment i am short on cash :(. Good luck in your search. BTW what part of MI are you from?
