So, I have been looking at some Loveless blades all of which really caught my eye. Now the next question is where do I get one? And how much?

Here is a model I am interested in getting... the green looks awesome, but I would prefer one in black canvas micarta. Or even black linen.

Thanks,

This is all from a rather loose current status, which could probably use some fine tuning, and is aftermarket prices

Micarta, ss bolster drop point hunter-$5,000-$7,000, Riverside Mark

Micarta Chute as pictured, Maybe $9,000+ Riverside Mark

Micarta Big Bear, around $20,000+, Riverside Mark

Dave Ellis, J.W. Denton or Lou DeSantis are all good bets, as is Louis Chow.

I was going to say that if your low mileage 2003 BMW 3 series is paid off, you might be able to trade straight up:D

Here is a good source.

http://knifelegends.com/ Look up Loveless under Artist. Also look up Lovett

There are no Lovetts for sale, but I think there is one Loveless Chute Knife. good Hunting. Thanks for the prices Steven. Did he request them? Or are you just trying to scare him off?

He did want to know how much for the one model. I'm sure STeven just gave him the other values as a point of reference, in-case he was interested in more than the chute knife.

Thanks for all the replies.

Thanks Steven, those prices are kinda what I expected, but I thought one pictured would be more like $5500.

I have always thought his designs were pure genius, and his craftsmanship out of this world but this is the first time I am crazy enough to spend that much on a knife. :D

Looks like I will be saving for a LONG time. :D

Hi Mr. Lovett,

Thanks for the link, are you going to the Eugene show? If so I will look forward to seeing you there, I hope I can buy a knife or so from ya.

As I said, I'm sure my little list could use tuning....however, when you are buying a Loveless, you are very much at the mercy of who is buying, and who is selling....they can go for a little lower, BUT if there is anything special about a specific piece, there is usually a premium attached.

Yeah, I am not looking for anything really special. Its a buyers market so this is the time to buy.

On Loveless knives, it is ALMOST always the seller that holds the upper hand....unless it is a used knife.

Is it that way with all handmade knives? I understand why his knives are going for so much, but with the market less and less people have cash like that. :o :thumbdn: When I do get one, there is not way I am using it. :D

People who buy Loveless knives are generally smart and financially secure enough to ride out economic uncertainties.....R.W. Loveless is arguably the most famous knifemaker in the world, and considering he has been making since the mid-'50's, also one of great longevity.....even so, the demand has outweighed the supply since the '70's....and that is CERTAINLY not the case with all handmade knives.

Have fun!

Yep. To me its a investment... not a user, I have Busses for using.

I sure hope I can shake the mans hand someday, he has been making knives for a very long time, and its incredible he still is.

I have a Guardian II, designed by Loveless in absolute perfect condition, with Guardian II printed on the handle and R.W. Loveless engraved on the blade it from the 70's and thats how I got to know about the guy.

If you want to make it a user, than perhaps Dave Ellis, Louis Chow or J.W. Denton may know of one that is for sale, that way, you will not bang up a new condition knife, and will probably save substantial monies.

Use it all you want, but understand that your substantial cost will most likely offer minimal if any economic return....the people who purchase Loveless knives are often not looking for Loveless users.

Have fun!
