Information needed on straight razors - what's the best and how to?

My roommate and buddy wanted to know about straight razors. He wants to know about what brand to buy and how much to spend. So...

What is/are:

Top three-five brands...

the items you need to shave and keep up with the whole sha-bam...

Also, is it truly a better shave and any how-to advice you could offer would be great. Is he in danger?

Been doing this for several months. Based on my experience I'd say straight razor shaving is 40% shaving skill, 40% honing/stropping skill, and 20% or less razor brand.

Now that I've researched it a little more, I really like the designs of Thiers-Issard, but like Dovo's price a little better. Does anyone know when TI's second-gen steel is hitting the retail market?

Also, what razor would you recommend for under 40-50 dollars that I could just try it out and see if I like it before dropping like $300 bucks and getting addicted. I can see this getting out of control more than my knife collection.

What's the best market for used razors? Ebay looked pretty week unless I searched for them wrong...
