I received this knife today from Andy Prisco, it's on of the new breed of "loaners", which i got because i'm special
Nah, kidding. It's just that i've got a Battle Mistress on order and Andy was being ever helpful.
Now, onto the knife.
Fit & Finish - Overall excellent, i can find no areas where anything is uneven. The grind is smooth, the handles are matched... excellent quality.
Handle - This knife is the Desert Warfare version, meaning it has Tan handles instead of black. It's the new version, with the industrial fasteners holding the handles in. I assume there is also epoxy in there, although it is impossible to see. One handle slab is slightly lighter than the other, but it is barely noticeable. The materiel is the new Diamond quilted canvas micarta. It provides a very secure grip and feels rock solid on the tang, which by the way, is huge!!! .23 thick, it won't be breaking. The hammer pommel at the end has the potential to be very useful.
Blade - The 3.5 inch, black coated INFI blade is quite simply the beefiest blade i have seen yet. It is a little powerhouse, and feels much bigger than it actually is. I haven't done any chopping (it's not my knife!) but the edge has held up to slicing well so far, on some cold meat and a bit of cardboard. The convex edge is easily visible by looking along the blade of the knife. I can't comment on the edge holding, although i can see how the design would work. The knife shaved right out of the box, and continues to do so.
Sheath - The sheath is kydex, a double slab model, not a foldover. It holds the knife EXTREMELY securely, i needed to work it for a while to get the hang of removing the knife
Unless it loosens up a whole heap, it's not coming out of this sheath. There is a slight rattle, but it's only noticeable when shaking the knife around fairly hard. the slabs are held together with 8 black steel fasteners, plus three holding the belt loop on. It has a very efficent drainage hole atthe base of the sheath, althoug it's on the back, and if the sheath were pressed hard against something (flesh for instance) It may not work. I have not tested this idea, but i really don't think it would be a problem.
In fact the only problem i forsee is having to send it back!
Other than this, there is one other thing that should be said.. ANDY PRISCO RULES!!!! He has been nothing but a gentleman, always responding to my e-mails as soon as he can, which is almost always overnight (for me). He has been endlessly helpful, changed my order halfway through, and kept me up to date. And on top of all this, he has sent me a knife to play with while i wait! Andy is truly a great guy, and i recomend him highly.
