Looking for input from users on suitability of C36 or C36bk military for general purpose woods knife.
How good is the locking system?
Overall performance >Any pros or cons .
Users input appreciated>
thanks,regards,Rick.

I've got one in my pocket right now. It is one of the largest, lightest, quickest opening, locks up like a vault Spydies out there. It's really hard to beat if you want a big hard duty folder.

I've had 5 Militarys over the years. The last two did not lock properly. I still haven't got around to returning the last one. As a result, I'm a little hesitant to recommend the Military unless you can actually handle it first to check out the lock. If you find one that locks up properly, buy it. You might want to check out a Manix also.

What kind of problems did you run into? I've got several Milli's and they all lock up solid.

On one of them, there was a large gap between the liner and the contact point of the blade. The gap was so large that you if you shook the knife, you could hear it rattle. The gap was extreme. I've never seen this problem before on any other knife.

The other one has vertical play, but not as bad as the first. If you put pressure on the spine of the blade, you can see the liner flex and slide left. I have also had some problems with the knife unlocking in certain grips; my hand is somehow pressing on the liner.

My Starmate and original Centofante both lock up rock solid. Maybe I'm just really unlucky.

As a result, I'm not as comfortable with a liner lock anymore.

Though I've used my Military out in the woods quite a bit and sung its praises, now I think I'd advise against it. I think if Spyderco made a version without the cut out above the liner, people would have fewer issues with them unlocking with use.

I'm also having some liner issues again. Adjusting the eccentric pivot doesn't seem to help anymore either.

I agree; this is a problem.

I would like to see either a frame lock or compression lock Military. It's a great design that deserves a better lock.
