I bought some of the Ins-Tuff stuff, for coating insuwool in a firge. I did the unusual and decided to read the instructions before messing with it. It turned out not to be instructions but a safety warning. Is this stuff as nasty as the paperwork says so? I'm scared to use it after reading about it.

Come on ya forge buildin bastidos, gimme a clue here! :D
Guess I'll give Gerry a call and get the poop straight from the source. I'll post what ever info I get on this wicked stuff.

L6, not worked with the stuff personally. From an experienced forger who made his own cyclonic forges the word was, the inswool fibers are very bad for you. Recommended respirator when working with the stuff and spraying with some sort of refractory/furnace coating (Satanite)after lining forge to stabalize the fibers so they didn't breakdown and become airborne when using the forge. Refractory material from AP Green 800-887-555. My forging done with coal/coke, open hearth, mostly mild steel artistic stuff.

Its about like breathing fiberglass.
Make sure you coat it several times to lock up the glass when coating it.

This is how I do it. Wear a good respirator. I lay out the Inswool on a flat surface, run a string around the OD of forge for lenght. Cut to lenght and widht. Apply water to wool with a spray bottle first it helps the coating to adhere, then coat it with the Satanit ,ITC 100 HT or etc. and install in forge. I mix the coating in a old food processor and apply with a brush. .

L6, did you find out anything about the ins-tuff, I have some I got from a refractory repair guy. Like you I read the label and thought I don't know.......

Ugh, I called em once and got an answering machine and forgot to try again. It's not the insa wool that I'm scared of, it's the ins-tuff, the liquid you coat the wool with. I think I'm just gonna sell the stuff to someone with more nerve than myself and build it with fire brick.
