I was sitting in the pub having some lunch and talking to one of the local farmers and somehow the the subject of skinning foxes came up. That led to knives and then he pulled this slipjoint out of his pocket and told me he always carries "this thing". I had a look and it was a Camillus.

This one:

Well, it wasn't exactly that one, instead of the long straight slit in the blade it had a smaller "moon shaped" one, so did the other two blades. Not sure what model it actually is.

Anyway, the thing was full of dirt, hard to open and all the blades were about as sharp as an axe handle. I asked him if he'd like me to sharpen it for him. Sure he said.

Took it home, got the gear out, cleaned it up, lubed the joints and put a really nice edge on all the blades. Even put a bit of polish on the blades and the brass bolsters.

Strange as it may seem, I really enjoyed myself, it was fun restoring something well used and in need of a bit of care.

OK, no big deal, but that was my Sunday.

Don't foxes get cold without their skin?

I'm glad you were able to get the knife back into shape for him. i'm sure he appreciated it. taking the time to make something more useful for someone is a good thing.

Thats a great way to spend a Sunday Gaj. Or any day for that matter..

There is a lot of satisfaction bringin an old knife back to life

intolerant grouch!;) (from your tagline!)
Camillus made excellent knives at all price points and wonderful variety, and they made knives for everybody else too!
My first pocket knife was a camillus, still have it 20+ years later!
Aint a day goes by that i dont miss that company
very nice of you to do that! good karma!
cheers

That was a very nice gesture. Good to hear stories like this lets me know there are still good folks out there.

That's a very decent gesture:thumbup: Quite often, those who just use knives(rather than we who use and idolise them...)often have blunt blades, odd.

Having said that, I've got a Queen Cut in D2 that I just can't get an edge on, maybe I should send it to you mate:D

No problem, just attach it to a bottle of Wild Turkey ..... ;):)

Slightly more seriously, if you were in Oz I'd be happy for you to send it but if you're overseas the shipping would be a killer.

Cool gesture, and a cool story - thanks for sharing. Let us know what he thinks about having a cleaned up, properly sharpened knife.
