Well, I'm always the geeky one who needs all of the latest software and upgrades so I figured since Internet Explorer 8 was out of Beta i'd download it. I loved Internet Explorer 7 and never had a problem from the beginning. Internet Explorer 8 is a headache. Theres compatability issues with websites, it's slower and it's just a pain in my a**. I like the interface, it pretty much still remained Internet Explorer 7. Who else has it and hates it, or loves it? If you have Internet Explorer 7 and don't have a need for 8, don't download it. Some websites don't load so you have to click the "Compatability" button. Or some do but when you click on certain things on the website they won't play or load or whatever.

You could just use Firefox...

Yup, very slow and clumsy. Wish I never changed.

Hate all that crap on the top of the screen.

Same problems here. Suzuki, you wrote exactly what I was thinking/ I wish I'd never changed.

By the way, Firefox was a real pain when I tried it, it's obviously not for everyone. But I was so disgusted with IE8, I finally got around to trying Google Chrome. That's what I'm using now. Very different, very quick, much more fun.

Really? Is it worth the download? Do you lose functionality?

I don't do a lot of exotic stuff online and Chrome works fine for me. I know it doesn't have everything because when I go to Astronomy Picture of the Day, Chrome doesn't have a function for setting the picture as my background. So I load IE8, take care of that, and shut it down, or leave it off in a corner in its own separate window.

The download was so fast I thought there must be more to it. It sets up a very different desktop which is easy to learn. Obviously, most functions are the same or it wouldn't work at all.

It's too bad they changed -- I agree IE7 was a real improvement over what they'd had and they just screwed it up with 8. Firefox was not impossibly bad, but when 7 came out, I dropped Firefox.

For those who haven't used it, there's nothing faster than Opera (except maybe Konqueror, but not for Windows).

All, I'm not a Microsoft 'poster child' by any stretch but I've got to give IE8 two thumbs up. I was in the beta program for six months for my company's relationship with Microsoft and let me tell ya the original betas were so bad I almost rebuilt my laptop on several occassions. Then came along RC1 and 95% of the issues we reported back over the previous four months were all repaired.

When the production release came out I was skeptical from all of the beta testing but I've been nothing short of thrilled with it. I'm an Iron Key user of many years so I've been on FF v2x key resident and FF v3 OS resident. FF is a great browser no question about it, but I havent' turned back once since IE8 production release came out.

I find it to be much more responsive and fast loading than both FF v2x and FF v3. Chrome is quite frankly ridiculous. I feel it has a lot of potential but its a good year of continued development away from a major browser platform. They honestly released it too early to combat FF3 and the soon to follow IE8.

I've not had a single crash, error or incompatibility on any website that I frequent. Granted I didnt take the time to go through my 300+ favorites in IE8 but so far there hasn't been one thing I dislike about the production release.

Just my $0.02, I'm extremely satisfied with IE8.

Not a big firefox fan. I like sticking with IE. I'm just hoping it's all fixed soon!

Try OPERA

http://www.opera.com/

Thats the eternal debate...Opera or Firefox.

Me personally I'm a tweener as I use both Opera and FF, FF is used for my more "advanced" internet needs whereas opera is the simple quick browser I end up using 90% of the time.

Download and install opera and use it for a week (no cheating and going to IE) and then go back to IE and I'm willing to bet your going to end up sticking with OPERA.

Just configure it to your needs, play around with it, reskin it, and just use it.

This post goes for all you IE users...Just give opera or FF a shot for 1-2 weeks and then go back to IE and you will understand both how insecure, slow, clunky (bloat), and just un-userfriendly it is.

FYI Most of the "new" features IE is starting to include were things that Opera and FF have been doing for a long long time.

I dropped Firefox in favor of Safari :) Truthfully, I don't think it's as good a browser as firefox (fewer plug ins and features) on the Mac, but I like Safari's simplicity and speed.

On a PC, I've had nothing but great experiences with Firefox.

I run a 4-core 3.0 Ghz Xeon processor Mac Desktop with 13 Gigs RAM, and somehow I can't seem to see any speed difference between FF, Opera, Safari, and anything else that runs on a Mac. Bummer. ;)

I don't run IE because I think it's an inferior browser to FF, Opera, and the rest of them. No, I refuse to run IE because I think Windows is an inferior product, period. :D

But it's late on a Saturday night, and I've been sitting here giving my company free time because of something an egghead in Australia screwed up, so I'm feeling a little combative. Ignore me, please....

I've been using Opera for five years or more now.

For years, I refused to use anything but Internet Explorer. But those were the day when the only other really viable option for Windows was Netscape and it just flat out sucked.

I gave the first Mozilla browser a shot many moons ago and hated it. Then I tried an early version of Opera and wasn't impressed so I went back to IE.

Then I tried Firefox and loved it. But for some odd reason that I still haven't figured out, it would lose all my bookmarks randomly. Even if I loaded a saved profile, the bookmarks were gone. So I gave Opera another shot and haven't turned back.

I do like how Internet Explorer is set up. It's very intuitive and doesn't take much effort to learn. So I've set up Opera very much like IE, but it's so much more expandable.

I'll give the new IE a shot though. But I'll probably come back to Opera. I haven't tried Chrome or Safari (I always uncheck that box when iTunes updater tries to download it).

I have Safari and Firefox on my Mac. I use Safari just because i am familiar with it. Both are much IMO than whatever version of IE I had on my old Toshiba laptop, but a lot of that may have to do with the machine.
