Anyone ever tried one of the free IP hiders that a google search brings up such as this one
http://www.allanonymity.com/ip-hider-hide-ip-software/

could something like this cause me more problems than it is worth? my reasoning for wanting it is because of MLB.com blackout restrictions:mad: i have lived with it for a few years now but i read how an IP hider can suddenly make me live in Germany;)

living in Iowa even though we do not have a team we are blacked out for the Cardinals, Cubs, Royals, White Sox, Twins, and Brewers. the Cubs are the only team televised in my area but i would like to really watch the Cardinals which i can't without moving someplace else.

i know very little about computers so any help from the experts on here would be great:)

thanks in advance
Mark

All I've read on those is they don't work very well at all.
You can go on a proxy and have them hook you up and show your ip as someplace else, but the free ones are full of adware. (and even some sites won't allow logging on with a proxy)
I've read about this stuff but other than hooking up at a couple of sites with a proxy a few times just to see if it works, I've not bothered with it.
PS. Just a caution I briefly clicked on that link and my McAfee warned me it wasn't a safe site!

basically, you get what you pay for. everyone makes money somehow, and the days of people making software for fun are long gone. people still do, but they ask for help, and are few and far between.

the other problem you will run into is that any ip changer will slow down your connection, and since streaming video is pretty intensive, I'm not sure that running a proxy would be all that reliable.
Also be aware that many portal/proxy systems run your connection through another machine, meaning that if someone wants to, they can watch too.

My McAfee site advisor red flagged that site as having spyware and adware as well as other unwanted programs. If it's FREE there is a reason it's FREE!

i'm glad i asked here first! the last thing i need is to lower my connection speed. i think i will just be happy with what i've got and watch the Card's games when they are archived.

thanks for all the help everybody!

All due respect guys, it would be a lot more valuable if you provided some context to your posts rather than just a blind link.

I have to wonder because, for example, I have used Tor extensively. If you are suggesting it in this thread, you either didn't read the original poster's parameters or you have never used it:
the last thing i need is to lower my connection speed

There is no way to use Tor without lowering your connection speed.

Iceage, I know it's been mentioned before but just remember, with stuff like that, you are often as good as broadcasting what you are doing to the world, so keep your eye on what personal info and passwords you use.
