Im in the market for a ipod touch 2nd gen. Anyone know where I can get it at the lowest price? O would like the 16gb model

iPod's prices are pretty much set by Apple, they are the same price everywhere. The best deal to be had in my opinion is to buy a refurbished model directly from Apple's website. They put the iPod's in a new shell and install a new battery as well as fully test them. They also come with the same accessories as a new one as well as the same 1 year warranty. There's really no downside to it.

I have an 8gb Ipod Touch. It is simply a phenomenal device. The amount of different things you can do with them is amazing. And with all the people developing apps for them now it just keeps getting better.

Do you think that 8gb is enough storage? how much space do apps take up?

8 is fine. i have 200ish songs and over 30 apps and 3 2 hr videos and about 40 pictures and i still have a little under 5 gigs left.

8gb is enough if you don't plan on carrying a lot of music or movies around. I keep all my music on my computer and just switch it out every once in a while. That being said I would still go for the most storage that you can afford. Having too much is never a problem.

Check the big box stores in your area. Sometimes they come up cheap. I went with the 16 gig. 8 is probably fine, and I lived with 4 on my 1st gen Nano for years. No apps on the nano of course, but still.

Whichever size you get, you will love it. I'm posting from mine now :D

Depends on how much you like to carry on your iPod at one time. I have one of the 16GB iPhones, and I currently have 30+ albums on it, and that takes up around half the available space. As far as apps go, I've got a couple fairly substantial games and 2-3 other utility apps on it right now, and they are taking up a negligible amound of space (significantly less than 1GB). If you get into watching video on your iPod, the 8GB might be a problem (not sure, I have not tried it on my iPhone yet but HD video files can get big quick). So, you should be able to fit a couple dozen albums and a hand full of apps on an 8GB iPod with no problems.

I love my iPhone so I would think you'll be happy with the iPod.

Apps are so tiny its not even funny. Theyre measured in MB and usually only 1 or 2. 8gb will serve you fine. And you can jailbreak it which means you can get free cracked apps (free paid ones) if that doesn't bother your sense of character, and you can fully customize how it looks and acts. with one from the factory you can't really do anything with it besides change the lock screen pictures. PM me if you want to know more.

the only reason I havent bought one of these new touchable iphones/ipods is the flash storage.

my 80 gig ipod is busting at the seems and I listen to nearly everything on it. Some stuff takes up a lot of room. I have a LOT of hour long trance remixes, lossless hendrix records, complete discographoes of enya in 320kbps, etc.

ok I think im gonna buy one from apple. Do they replace the screen too? like will I get one with a scratched up screen? Please reply on the ipod touch thread as my email isnt working atm

I honestly don't know if they replace the screen or not. I would imagine if it is scratched at all they would replace it as it is the focus of the device. Anyone else know for sure?

You can replace the screen yourself. Its fairly simple. As for flash drives, they are more durable than hard disk drives and can take a beating.

What he was asking is when you buy a refurb from Apple does if have a new screen as well as a new case. I would assume that they do because the screen in the main focal point of the device but I don't know for sure.

By the way I am posting from my iPod right now. :)

Try Apple's refurb site - there are usually very good deals on there.

I think 8gig would be plenty. I have over 700 songs on my 4gig second generation Nano... granted I only have 23MB left, but I can let it play for a few days and never hear the same song twice.

Sometime I think I will upgrade to a 16gig Touch though.

I've got the 16Gb 3G iPhone and would actually like to be able to upgrade to the new 32Gb version just announced/released (I think it's the 3GS??)
It holds several movies, podcasts and a few hundred songs but I'm spoilt by the capacity of my 160Gb iPod Classic, hence the reason I'd like to get the 32Gb iPhone. As it is I only use the iPod in the car now, plugged into my mp3 accessory input since it has pretty much my entire music collection on it.

Anyhow back to my intended point, with the release of the new iPhone they've announced they're dropping the prices on the 3G iPhone. Has anyone heard if they're releasing upgraded Touches? If so the current batch might get a price drop too. You may be able to get a new one cheaper than it would have cost you a week ago. Just something to consider.

June 17th they're releasing the new iPhone 3.0 software for both the iPod Touch and the iPhone. And yes, the new iPhone is the 3Gs. It has Video recording capabilities and something else that the 3G doesn't have.

I've gotta do some reading up on these software/firmware updates as my phone has been jailbroken and I've had video capabilities for several months now.
