Is it user error or the blade?

I have a cheapo Zeek razor, just wanted to see if I liked it. Anyway, I've been able to shave with it a few good times now and really do. Clearly it's a dirt cheap razor, it doesn't say what steel it is and neither did the ad. Well, I noticed some nice size tears and chips in it so I took it down some. I used the same processes I have used before, but I can't get anything but a useless tinfoil sounding edge. I tried to rework it at a different angle and still get the same thing. Now I've made it shave well in the past, but I just can't get it worth a nickel now, not even sharp enough to shave arm hair. My BM 5000 is 100x more sharp.

opinions? I'd take pics buy my camera isn't quality enough to get a good zoom shot of the edge.

The Zeepk razors are not well regarded among straight razor aficianados. The steel will not hold an edge for long if at all (Pakistani bulk/junk steel of questionable quality).

You're better of getting an older razor off of eBay, and cleaning it up.

lol the 'p' is worn off the blade. ha. Yeah I assumed that. I'm a little strapped right now but I plan to get a few more actually. I was able to rework it AGAIN lol and shave fair with it. You do have to strop mid shave a few times with this POS. And you have to take it down and reedge it every couple of shaves. Meh well, I figure if I can make this junk work, I REALLY like a decent one.

Frankly, I'm impressed...you're the only human on the planet who ever managed to drag a decent shave out of a Zeepk. You musta got a defective one.:D

So what's the real straight razor that you're gonna get?

Dovo & Thiers Issard are pretty much it for the "big" names. Of course, Fromm (Giesen & Forsthoff) are also available.

I'd love suggestions with links... I don't know yet.

Do you have antique stores in your area? I've gotten two of my three straight razors that way. One was under $20, the other was $10. Both need some work. They weren't damaged, had just been sitting around for a number of years. You obviously aren't afraid to put the work in.
