Is the Axis AFCK Really Better Than the Liner Lock Version?

I bought a model 800 AFCK part serrated a few years ago and have never regretted it. The knife is solid as a rock and the blade locks with a reassuring "thunk" when it is opened. With the round hole it opens as smooth as silk and the handle fits my handle very well. My understanding is that the differences between the new 804 Axis AFCK and my 800 is the the shape of the opening hole as well as the lock style. There might also be a steel difference. My question is "do you really think that the new 804 is a better knife than the 800? It is hard to improve on a great product. Maybe I am just secretly looking for a good excuse to get a new one. Thanks for your comments.

The short answer is "yes".

The longer answer is "yes, the axis lock is better than the liner lock version." :p

Rob64 I like the Axis lock AFCK(806) better than the liner lock(800 round hole and 804 oval hole). The 806 has D2 steel instead of the ats-34 or 154cm blade. The only thing that would make the 806 even better is if they made it with a tip down carry option. Oh wait they did rite after I got mine ;) .

i personally think the oval hole is much better then the circular hole, the oval hole allows you to get more of your thumb into the blade

I have owned both and I am back to the liner lock. I have never had a liner lock fail in any way shape or form. That's not saying it doesn't happen, that's just saying it's never happened to me I did have the AXIS lock disenage once when my thumb brushed it while I was repositioning it from the spine to the side. Not a fault of the AXIS lock itself, but the design of the button and it's placement. Again, that's my experience and what I am going by. If that incident hadn't occurred, there is a very strong chance I would be with the group in saying the AXIS AFCK is better than the liner lock AFCK.

get the axis, they are the bomb, i have 5 AFCK's (800S, 800M2HSS, 800BT, mini AFCK11, and a axis AFCK) and prefer the axis myself - i havent had any probs accidently opening the lock on it or my 710's , though it could happen

i do prefer the round hole, but, honestly, never use the hole to open it anyway, prefering to manipulate the lock button/inertia open it.....

I have 4 AFCKs, of those, I like my 806s best (2 of them). Now my problem is deciding which knife to carry (710 vs 806) in my front pocket and which to carry in the rear...

KnifeDude, are you kidding about Axis AFCKs available with a tip down carry option? Who is carrying those??? DAMMIT!!!

Nope not kidding. They were introduced at the shot show 2002. The will have 4 sets of clip screw holes. Tip up and tip down on both sides. If you do a search I think you will find pics of them.
