Is the TiLT carbidized?

I was wondering if the TiLT's lock face was carbidized or not as I was going to send out a few knives for carbidizing. I'm guessing it is as it's so smooth to disengage. I know Jimmer5 has said that the 0550/0560's have been carbidized (I'm wondering if I got bum models on those as neither of mine were, but I digress) but a search turned up nothing in regards to the TiLT.

Thanks in advance!

Better then no response since 3 am smart ass. If nothing else it was a free bump.

I thought your first comment was more "smart ass" then his response. Of course not everyone takes their knives apart. Especially if they came from the factory perfect as is.

Anyone know? I'd really like to send it out with my seb if it isn't. I'm not going to take it apart because it's perfect right now.

I don't know myself, but I can point you in the direction of someone that should know. You could try getting in touch with KershawLynda (mods the Kershaw section of the forums). I'm pretty sure she would be able to give you a 100% for sure answer one way or the other.

If it works don't fix it !!.... I'll take a knife apart in a second if I think i can make it better, i have never had any reason to take this knife apart.

I have carried and used my Tilt and used it with no mercy for months now...with not a single issue,,,,it has been perfection since day one.

IMO its an amazing knife...i just a few days ago had to strop the edge ( i use a leather belt on my 1x42 ) a couple quick passes on each side and it was razor sharp....i am very impressed with the steel on this knife.

Are you one of those guys who doesn't disassemble his knives? I ask because it's pretty easy to tell if you have the knife.

One of those guys who doesn't disassemble his knives? Who cares if he does or doesn't take apart his knives. He asked a question. There is ZERO room for name calling. Be civil to each other or don't post.

Thanks Morrow.

I've sent my seb out to Johnathan Mitchell for carbidizing, but kept my tilt for now. My reasoning is my seb has some slight vertical play and a sticky lock, but the tilt is super solid and smooth to unlock. I never disassemble ti framelocks because they few times I did, it results in vertical play.

I'd still like to know if it is though!

Sebenzas are known to develope lock rock after a while. It was a good idea to carbidize the lock face.

FYI The Sebenza has a hardened lock face. It doesn't need to be carbidized.

after a while the Carburization that you are talking about wears off, and then the knife must be carbidized or lock rock will occur.

Carbidizing > Carburizing.

No. They are not known to develop play.

YOURS did. YOURS somehow developed a messed up lockbar during "normal EDC" activities. An exceptionally rare occurrence.

Again, you forgot to mention your entire backstory while libeling CRK.

I can always count on a fan boy jumping in to defend Mr.Reeve.

Obviously its not just me, the op is saying his has lock rock and that's why hes carbidizing it.

Honestly I don't think a lot of people use there sebenzas and that's why they don't have issues with the lock. Every person who Ive asked who has actually used there sebenza has at least a little lock flakage, and can feel a minute amount of play which if not carbidized gets worse.

The back story on the knife that is long gone isn't anything bad, just a used sebenza that had lock movement due to the flaking of the carburization.

If you don't like my views or posts keep it to yourself, this is a kershaw forum not the crk forum.

Defend your glory in His forums.

Yep. I never got why all mfg.'s don't Carbidize their lock face

Its probably because its done by hand, and is too time consuming to be cost effective.

Id be willing to pay a little more for carbidizing, knowing that the knife will last longer.
