Is there a knife similar to the 110, in that its iconic, brass and wood, and a sturdy popular working knife?

I have a 110 and like it a lot, but would be interested in a non-folding knife thats similar.

Do you think the Buck Ranger Skinner 113 would be close? But that's supposed to be a skinner type right?

Many thanks...

Well, Dave110 would tell you that he actually owns a fixed-blade 110......but only a few exist.

The 102 is the size you mention.....and a fine little knife it is.

Here's an old one.

There is indeed a beautiful brass and wood model also.

They are readily available on the Buck website......if you join BCCI the discount is amazing.

Hi - thanks for the fast reply...I checked it out on Youtube, it looks nice but a bit small for me...the Youtube videos are good because you can see when people pick it up, related to the hand size, LOL.

Anyway I came across the Buck 119, I will check out that one too, it looks very in that style.

Thanks again.

The 119 is a fine knive and could be considered and icon, it is a sight bigger than the 110 though. Not a ton but noticible.

Here they are together with a 317

Don't forget the 118. Only a half inch more blade than the 102 but I think there's significantly more handle.

That 119 is a BIG knife, great for killing bears, but not so all-around useful as the smaller ones.

:)

I think either the 102 woodsman or 105 pathfinder would be a good fit I've owned a 105 forever and used it on countless hunting excursions and it seems to me to be about the ideal "hunting knife" for medium sized game.

Hey, don't forget that the Youtube guys may have huge paws.

:D

Anyhow, here's how it looks against the 110......I agree it's just a bit smaller, but that can be an advantage on many things.

I'd have included a 118, but I discover I don't have one anymore.....guess I'll have to hit e-Bay next!!!

Good luck anyhow!!

Thanks everyone for all the good replies and ideas, I will have to check it out.

Buck really makes a lot of great knives, and they seem to be mostly numbers so its difficult at first to know them all.

I know the Nighthawk is not a number, LOL, and some number knives have names too, but its still a lot of numbers..., I like the 110, what about a 113, get a 119, 105, 102, 317, LOL.

Thanks for the comparison pics, I appreciate it....with stock photos of any knife alone, I find it difficult to get a feeling for the size, so thanks for two knives in one pic.

He doesn't seem to want a "skinner type" (as he called it).

Seems to like the traditional clip blade look.

Here is a picture of two of the 110 I own a 4 dot and a ???version/??? variation, I used to keep up on that type of thing but it slips away after a while, and the bottom is a 113. I think its a good alternative for a 110, yes its a "skinner" but not really, IMO

I'm going against the grain here, but if you want a fixed blade knife with iconic status equal to the 110, you might want to look at the KA-BAR USMC. I doesn't have the materials you listed, but I always thought the two looked good together and were equal as far as iconic looks go. Popular? Yes. Sturdy? You betcha. The USMC is a popular choice for field and utility work among many, and not just troops. KA-BAR has also just released the Mark 1. A little smaller, but still a great classic when purchased with the stacked leather handle.

"The 102 is the size you mention.....and a fine little knife it is.

Here's an old one."

Inspired me to go find mine. Its unused, but old and I never had a sheath for it.
"1973-1981 knives were marked (Buck, the knifes model #,USA) three lines"
Just ordered one from the Buck site (much bigger that the older sheath for the 102), along with a nylon sheath for my old, well used ..110.. (4 dot) 1981-1986? (again w/ Buck, .. 110.. , and USA on 3rd line) which is in an after market nylon w/ a too big belt loop. Given to me used, and has had the point reground due to a someones abuse.
Actually now that I look at it, the 110 has just been sharpened so many times the blade is shorter and narrower... not a broken off point reground. I had it repaired once as I broke the lock-bar spring.

Unless your refering to the Mark 1 of the '60s, but the Ka bars of today are crap, IMHO. I'd rather by a Chinese Buck than a new Ka Bar. The company has gone under so many times I don't even know who own it now. Cutco, maybe

We must be talking about different KA-BAR's. All the ones I have seen are of a solid construction with great 1095 steel and an excellent heat treatment. I've never noticed the crap you speak of in any of their products. Also, their customer service is top notch. I'm still waiting on Buck to even acknowledge the letter I sent about a month ago about the defective Vantage and the damaged 112 I received, while KA-BAR is always responsive to any question or concern I have ever had within about a day.

That stinks that your opinion of them has been made so low. I'm sorry. I think they are really great and I think my recommendation to the OP is still valid. I think many, many others would agree.

I've never seen a KA-BAR that was similar to the Buck 110?

Iconic? Sturdy? Fixed blade? Popular working knife? These were all things that the OP was looking for and why I suggested what I did. I'm starting to feel sorry that I didn't just suggest another Buck.

I'll start packing my things.
