is there such a thing as a water-resistant cell phone?

Not necessarily for talking under water, but for being comfortable answering a call in the rain.

Thanks

Verizon GZone. I have one and it has suffered so much abuse over the last year and a half it's amazing. WaterPROOF (films and takes pics as well as takes calls underwater) and has not let me down. Drops on to concrete from 10ft plus? No problem. Falling out of my pocket at 65mph when I'm on the bike? Still works. I have the original one, not the newer 2nd series or the newest Boulder.

I have a Samsung Rugby and I like it a lot. I cannot vouch for its water integrity (yet). It is a solid phone.

The ugly Samsung is available through Verizon and they seem to be pretty durable. My girlfriend has one and she went though almost as many Razr's as I did prior to buying this phone.

I can definitely rule out the Blackberry Curves... One dunk in the drink and they are toast.

Cheaper, and tactical to boot.

Get the Sonim. My friend has one, and it's solid. I still have a Erricson R250s Pro - THE toughest cell phone ever - but a bit bulky....

I have the Samsung Rugby. It's supposed to be able to resist an 80 foot drop, and be water and wind resistent. I got it through AT&T.

So far it seems a lot tougher than my previouls phones.

I have a gzone too, first gen to hit the US market. I'm tough on my phones, work at a boathouse and spend a good amount of time out in boats, or on land doing repairs. The phones been fully submerged in the CT river for about half an hour, roughly 20' down until I found it. Its been bashed into concrete on many an occasion to the point of leaving bruises on my leg, but only suffering a scratch on the outer bezel. And the best instance, it was run over by the outer rear tire of our work truck (ram 3500, unloaded but still) The case cracked up by the antenna from stress, go figure lol. but it still works. And I get 3 days off a charge with light use (30ish texts, and about 10 shorter calls)

The trade off is call quality sucks compared to non tough phones or even a sonim, has no bluetooth, and is a bit massive. Also the newer versions are not as tough, they're tough, just not invincible but they do have blue tooth and generally better call features. The clincher is that when i got mine it was the only tough phone option through verizon. Still a good phone, still on the original battery, used some west system epoxy to seal the small crack. Also the keypad is great if you have big stupid fingers, easy to hit the keys.

Hope that helped

My wife loved her Ericsson R310 right up until it was stolen. Tough as nails, it survived in her handbag for years :D
