OK, I'm a little confused and although these aren't my pictures, I want folks here to see them and give their opinion. Has anyone ever seen a fully radiused 2 dot 110? I haven't even seen a 4 dot done that way, but maybe I just missed them.

What do you think of this one? Could this be a 2 dot blade that has been put into a newer frame? It's sure different than any 2 dot I have or have seen.

Sure looks like a 4dot with a 2dot blade. Cant believe they got polished out or didnt get stamped hard enough to leave the other 2 dots.

I agree. The two-dot frames I've seen have been more squared off at the edges. Should be some nice 440C steel.

Looks like a different sheath than the 2 dots had, they came with the low ride cut out versions,at least mine did.The blade looks to have a much different nail nick than most buck 2 dot blades also.Interesting.

+1 on the sheath. Also not a 2-Dot vintage box (looks like the glossier, brighter yellow from late '80's. ALSO, look closely at the little "flags" at the top of the 1's in 110. All of the older knives that I just looked at were stamped with 1's that had small, closed/filled triangles at the top. Odd stamp, all around.

X-mas miracle?

Sellers response to my questions.

"Dear plumberdv,

ALL I CAN TELL YOU FOR SURE IS THAT A FRIEND GAVE ME THIS COMPLETE PACKAGE IN 1982. He told me he had owned it for a couple of years. It has not been out of my posession since 1982. Maybe Buck was getting rid of surplus materials?? Maybe it's rare & I should hold on to it!
HOPE THIS HELPS YOU."

Good eye! I hadn't noticed that. There's definately something fishy about that blade (the whole package). I just went through a bunch of 110's from two dots to new ones and I haven't found one yet with 1's that look like that one's.

"Buck" doesn't look like the "Buck" on my 2 dots and the "U.S.A." appears to be to big , at least to my eye.

Compare this tang to the one above. This is the tang stamp of one of two 2 dot 110's (both are the same) that I have in front of me. I see quite a bit of difference.

The blade's grind looks more modern than your average 2 dot.
I think there is an issue with the stamp.
Is it possible the old 2 dot stamp got brought out of storage in the 80's for some reason?
Remember a broken stamp caused a number of blades to be without a date stamp one year.

Dave, do a side by side on one of your for sure 2 dots. I'm interested in the diferences in the font of the stamp and the difference in the blade's grind.

I have a 1987 buck 110, according to the date stamp, that uses the font style on the 1's the same as the one you are questioning, with flags. Actually, the whole stamp looks identical with the exception to the two dots, very strange. It also is fully radiused as well as the same grind, much different than the grind on my two dot 110. Something seems suspicious to me, but what do I know, I'm new to this 110 addiction:D

Does anyone have any idea what this is? The dots are very faint. I took about 20 close-ups but this was the only good one.

After Trevytrev's response, I got out a couple of 1987's and, He's correct, both had the same font as on Plumbs mystery knife. Same flags, same size font on the stamps. I don't have any 1988's, but my 1989's revert to the standard style and size stamp.
However, one of those 1987's has a faint (but undeniable) dot to the left of the 110 (same appearance as on Plumbs), with the regular date stamp to the right? And nail nick still doesn't match. Every time an answer seems to appear, another question pops up. Fun stuff!
We aren't going to find that all this has been hashed out in an earlier thread, are we?

Looks like someone/something pressed harder on the grind/polishing towards the bottom. Everything is thinner at the bottom. Also the "1"s" look nothing like my 2 dot. Interesting stamp indeed...

Each time we get into these 'findings' it get interesting . But seldom does a Buck employee have a definative answer . The 1's on my 2 dot are like the rest of you guys bonifide 2 dots . Also the blade on Plumbers mystery 2 dot is fully hollow ground . Whereas, thats not the case on a real 2 dot . DM

Carefully compare the shape of the bottom of the ricasso on the real 2-Dot and the other. A 425M blade will have more rounded angles, while the 440C blade will have clearly more crisp angles.

Also measure the thickness of the blades.

A 440C blade should be slightly thinner than a 425M blade......I think it's .115" as opposed to .120" in thickness.

Also, some bolsters were being hand-radiused in 1982....possibly even 1981.

My guess is that this is going to end up as a case of a 425M blade with a worn-out or damaged or otherwise faulty stamp.

Sure looks squirrelly to me comparing it to my 2 Dot. The 1's mentioned, the dots are not in line and the nail nick it funky. I'll add my tang stamp to the mix.

Sit, See how your 110 numbers run up even touching the 'Buck' letters . Thats how the stamp on my 2 dot runs . Whereas Plumbers is nice and evenly spaced all the way around . So, your is like the rest of ours in pertaining to the '1' . Thanks for the photo . DM
