Is this a new version of the Ener-G or a counterfeit?

FYI: I just got off an 9 hour shift about an hour ago. So this is the rambling of a very tired man.

I just received my order of a Kershaw Ener-g 1740 plain edge, satin finish. The older knife has the coated blade and serrations.
As I opened the box I noted that the box was the new design. When I opened the knife I noticed two things: First, the gimping on the flipper was different from the old 13c26 Ener-g. On the old knife the gimping starts at the point where the flipper contacts the choil when the knife is closed and runs up, over the top of the flipper and onto the front of the flipper. The new knife's flipper is a different shape and only has gimping on the top of the flipper, similar to the JYD.

Old knife on left. (Just noticed that the G10 pattern is not the same either)

Second, The knife is marked with the right info, but the way it is stamped looks odd. It is lettering is blockier and the the tail son the "A" and "H" in the Kershaw logo are longer.

Old knife on top.

The liner lock has the center milled out rather than having a cut on the side. BUT! my Zing from Kershawguy has this same type of cut. My camera hates the inside of this knife so this is the best pic I could take. Oh well!

Old knife on top as well.

The fit, finish and feel overall seems to match my old Ener-g, but better to be safe. I would rather ask than get ripped off.

Pre post edit: As I look over this thread I wonder where my sanity went...

The kershaw marking is normally closer to the spine, as well as the model info. All the erer-g's I have ever seen say made in usa with lee williams design under that. Also there is no month/year etching behind the choil area. The knife looks off to me, and I dont think they would be making a new version because as far as I know this model was discontinued.

The new one's model number and Made in USA stamp looks fishy enough to me to think it is a fake. Kershaw has some tack sharp stamping/etching now, doesn't look like something they'd send out.

Where abouts did you buy, if you don't mind me asking.

That stamping is really bothering me. I got up off my couch to inspect all of my Kershaws as a result. No Kershaw I have even comes close to resembling that stamping. Where did you buy this knife? I'd like not to purchase from there IF that is infact a fake.

I can't imagine someone faking that model... just doesn't make sense to copy something thats not a big seller...did it come in a kershaw box etc etc

The pic you had a link to didnt include a date stamp either, didnt know they dropped the date stamp off the later models of these. But even in that pic the markings are higher and like every other ener-g I have seen it has the model number first, the kai logo/patent pending, made in usa, then lee williams design. The knife in question has lee williams design above the made in usa marking. Also the markings on the OP's original knife, the one you linked to, and the ener-g's I own have the markings slightly italicized, the knife in question is not. Too me there are too many things slighty off and I am stronly leaning towards to being a fake, but I could be mistaken.

I bought this knife from a vendor on the River site, so I was expecting it to look like the pics of the 2nd gen model. I have noticed that an other KnifeHQ also has the plain edge and satin blade. Now, I was under the impression that this model was discontinued, so to have a new one show up with several major changes REALLY freaked me out. And, yes, the blade stamp is what first made me think the knife could be fake. The way the stamp is laid out looks like it was stamped on with a rubber stamp, but it feels smooth to the touch. So I will send Kershaw a request with their form and await the answer. Come to think of it, I bought my Groove from these same people. I sure hope this Ener-g doesn't turn out to be fake.

Edit: I looked at the washers last night. They are colored like phosphor bronze. Yet another piece in the puzzle.

Keep us posted will be interesting to see what it truly is. Luckily it wasn't a $$$$ knife.

Thomas W! THANK YOU! Thank you very much!

I must seem paranoid. But I thought that the Ener-g # 1740 was discontinued and didn't think that there would be running changes to the knife. So, I did the sensible thing and panicked!
