Yesterday I found out the browser I'd been using for the last year or more just plain couldn't hack it and I had to finally download the most recent one. ( Actually both update MSN Explorer and Netscape ).

So now I'm fumbling around on the new ( and redesigned by sadists ) browsers and about the first thing I see is that Uncle went offline.

Just great. It's an article of faith with me that somewhere in the new programs is embedded a single keystroke that I know beyond all doubt will cause an irrevocable meltdown and I'm waiting for it to happen at the worst possible time. Uncle being offline might be just that event.

Maybe you know the feeling? Anyway, good morning all. If I suddenly disappear you'll know why. Karma.

I hate updating my browser. I alway put it off until it is absolutely necessary.
Every time Netscape comes out with a new version, it seems like they add hundreds of useless new features and remove a few really useful ones.

Thanks. I may yet need to go that way, but seem to be doing adequately so far on Netscape 7. Keeping my fingers crossed, and wishing I had learned how to use Explorer ( but not much ).

I wish I knew more about these things than I do.

I seem to have a problem with recieving messages from AOL users, in that, if there are more than one attachment to the email, I will never get to read the second attachment.

Now, is that the problem with the IP's or the Netscape communcator that I am using?

For Most things I get along fine. So, like some of the rest of the forum I hate to change any thing. I know that if I change there will be a learning curve and deleting from W-95 & 98 will just about drive a person up the wall.:) :D

might just bite the bullet and change over to Explorer, the learning curve is pretty short and as I understand it, Netscape is based on an antiquated version of Explorer and will always be deficient (according to my computer doc) As much as I dislike Microsoft I recently changed over and manage pretty well.
Good Luck

Am considering doing that as Netscape becomes used by fewer and fewer others. So in case I have to borrow someone else's computer to check the forums I won't be completely functionally illiterate.

You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned hating Microsoft. Given their ethics and way of business, back when the browser wars were still going on I chose to go Netscape because it was not Microsoft.

Now it's a matter of being lazy as long as I can get away with it.

AOL bought out Netscape. AOL uses the explorer tied into their AOL download. Don't think AOL is going to improve the Netscape for their own purposes. I really don't think Netscape will be around for too long. DAG

Ok folks, this grumpy flea bitten 'ol cat is now on the forum :D

"Netscape is based on an antiquated version of Explorer"

...not really, it's based on Mozilla, developed by college students at the Univ. of Chicago (Champagne?). IE came much later. AOL 'bought' Nutscrape after it had been out for a while.

"You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned hating Microsoft"

...Cha Ching! Echo those thoughts over here. I have been using Opera since ver. 4.0 (loved 4.02), didn't like the version 5's. Really like the version 6's so far.

Rusty, a quick comparison: ANYTHING Nutscrape can do, Opera can do better and faster. Lose Nutscrape and start gliding the WWW with Opera :) Do recommend keeping IE around though, 'cause there are some proprietarily supported pages/items that only it will display properly :(

...Alright already! I heard y'all, I'm GOING back to my litterbox. Sheeeesh!

Thanks Bill and ddean. Will check Opera out soon. Nice to hear a couple points of view from those more adept and knowledgeable than myself.

Here's a trick I recently learned about, and still keep forgetting.

In both Opera & MS Internet Explorer (& probably others);

If you press the F11 key, the window expands to fill the whole monitor.

First time is a WoW experience. At least on my screen.

OK: set up opera to download then took a nap. Got up and installed. Started and set up a few things and then chickened.

Back on Netscape til I have a few hours to play with Opera when I'm feeling either really sharp mentally or well medicated.;)

Shouldn't be a big deal.
Just try out the browser at first.
Lots of configuration options, but you can take your time on those.
I still use Agent for Email & newsgroups due to better filterig
options to get rid of spam and file the things I want to keep.

Oh yeah. Opera also has Instant Messaging built in.
Which one of these days I want to try out.
