hey BF

received my 0561 yesterday in the mail and got around to checkin it out today

i sent it back.

i know that is probably not common behavior, but for its size the knife is too lightweight for me - i kinda wish they hadnt pocketed the liners, to give it a little more heft like the xm-24

did anyone else feel this way? I guess for me, with having a big knife also comes increased weight, and the 561 just felt so...not flimsy...just..i dont know how to describe it...

I understand the feeling. In a primal way, I want heft in a knife. A heavier knife just feels substantial. It's the feeling of picking up a Buck 110. There's a thread floating around asking about what impresses you about a knife - I wanted to reply "heaviness".

The other ZT's don't seem to have this lightness. They may be titanium (which always surprises in its lightness), but they're generally shorter, thicker and the liners are not milled out (on the 055x).

Hi Devill -

You probably would like the 0551 then.

best

If we all liked the same knives, it wouldn't be any fun at all. Do try the 0550, for that matter, 0300, 0301 or 0303.

couldnt agree with you more kershawguy! i think its great there are so many different models

i'll be sure to check out the 300 series along with the 888 - i LOVE the design and feel of the 560/561 it is truly a beautifully thought out and executed knife - i would expect nothing less from the folks at ZT and Hinderer

next up to check out is the 888!

The 0560 was lighter than I thought it would be but it still felt substantial and fit nicely in my hands. I am used to using a 0300, 0200 and a G10 Tyrade alot and they all feel a bit heavier. It is interesting hearing the complaint that a knife is too light when so many people complained about 030X's and 0200s being too heavy and being recurved. It seemed like ZT made a knife to answer all those complaints with the 0560/0561.

I know its too late now but since the liners are pocketed I guess you could have thrown some lead in there to add some heft?

I actually really liked the fact that it was so light weight and slim for such a big knife. Personally for me I couldn't find anything that I didn't like about the knife but yet I just didn't like it so I sold it. Can't really explain it, but I'm sure some of you know what I mean.

Since you own Hinderers I'm sure the ZT just feels bleh to you.

The weight:size ratio seems about right to me, I wouldn't call it "light" for it's size. The Spyderco Military weighs an ounce and a half less and has a longer blade, that's a light knife. For the record, I also like the Military.

Though it certainly isn't a light knife, I felt the same way.
Too slender and light for its size. And the balance felt off, too.
I picked up an 0551, and the heft feels proportionate to the size, and balance is right where I like it.
I'd try that one (or 0550), or some of Kershawguy's other recommendations.

Funny how people feel differently about the 0550-0560. I just got the 0550 today and feel like its not half the knife my 0560 is. Different stroke for different folks i guess.

I just got a 560 last night. Right out of the box, I was a little surprised by the weight. Much lighter than it looks. And it took some time in hand to get used to. But I like it. It can't compare to my XM but that was to be expected. I doubt the 560 will knock the XM out of the pocket but if I need to carry something larger or cheaper, the 560 will become a go to.

I think the 560, the 30x, 550, and Benchmade 275 Adamas are four of the best factory heavy-duty knives on the market today, bar none. There are others that I carry, but I almost always have one of these on me.
