Hi guys, unless youre a frequenter of the busse forum here, you won't have seen me around. My affection for busses possibly betrays the sort of knives I'm into -- tough, do it all, knives you can rely in adverse circumstances.
Anyway, I've just got back from a week sailing in Greece, and wanted to give some feedback on how pleased I was with my ZT 0350.
This is one tough little knife. Before I went away I had been using this knife to whittle stuff while sitting outside in the sun on my flat roof. Letting my mate have a go, he accidentally smashed right the through the stick and into the asphalt roof. I was a bit dismayed because I'd barely had it for a few days, and it looked to be chipped out (not unsurprisingly!!!) anyway, a) it resharpened with absolute ease, and b) I think that the edge had rolled rather than chipped because it only took three or four swipes on a stone to get it looking brand new again. And the edge shape hadn't been altered at all.
Secondly, I used it to baton driftwood for bonfires using fire hardened bits of driftwood. This it also coped with very well. After this there was a barely perceptible amount of blade play, but nothing that couldn't be retightened.
General edge retention is pretty good which is what You'd expect from s30v, very similar performance to infi in this respect. It easily dealt with the sea bream we caught. (beheaded and gutted)
Ergos. Brilliant. One of the main attractions of this model to me was the matte finished style of the g10. The handle feels great and the way the guard works is nothing short of brilliant.
Corrosion resistance: quite good. I kept it in my swim shorts which I was wearing for much of the week. It should be kept in mind that these shorts were damp to wet for most of the week in humid conditions in salt water -- a perfect corrosion resistance test! I actually even did a reasonable amount of swimming with it in my pocket. By the end of the week the was some slight surface rust, but this could be wiped off with a dish cloth. Given the nature of the challenge it was up against I don't think that's too bad
having said that it obviously wasn't intended to be a dive knife. also I haven't really subjected any of my other knives into these conditions so I cant speak comparatively, but I was pleased.
Anyway best regards from a ZT 'believer'
