Just bought a Blade magazine "Oct 2006" and noticed a knife maker with my Exact name on the blade.Well I had to order the knife seeing it had my name on it,a little drop point hunter with ATS-34 and stag handle.Anybody heard of J.P.Jones from Mississippi?

well,I guess it's good and bad that nobody heard of this knife maker. Some time you just pay your money and take your chances.I have a good feeling though.

I know a J.P. Jones here, but I don't think he's a knifemaker. But he could be, I have never talked to him about knives, so I don't know. What part of Mississippi is he from?????

I tried to look up J.P.Jones in all my knife referance books and I could not find him anywhere. I have a knifemaker friend in Mississippi and I will ask him if he knows J.P.

He's not the one I know, but I would like to know more about him, I like supporting local makers.

Tell us a little about the knife and any info. you have on Jones. Being an old Mississippi boy, I am interested in makers from the magnolia state. I have one from David Winston (Starkville, MS) and it is a very fine knife.

Lanza,

Matt Lamey is from Biloxi and Paul Lebatard who is from Vanclave, both
make very fine knives, Matt forges bowies and Paul does stock removal.
Check out there work.

I ordered a couple of knives from J.P. Jones at the Arkansas knife show today. He said that he has several orders ahead of mine and that it would be a couple of months before mine will be done. I really look forward to getting them as these are my first custom knife purchases. There were probably about five tables that had knives that I was interested in, but something about his table drew me in and I was sold.

I know a bunch from north Mississippi but am not sure I know him.It is funny how a knifemaker can live just across town and you never know it until someone introduces you or you run into each other. This is why some of my friends have started having a once a month lunch in Tupelo. We all get together and try and invite all the makers we here of or know to join for laughs and show and tell, basically get outta the shop for a little while and get to talk knives.

You have:
Chris Crawford
John Cohea
Ted McMinn
Chad Nichols
Don Hall
Me Just to name a few up north

Then you have
Will52100 from the forums here down south
Terry Vandeventer from Jackson
David Winston
Al Alexander
And many more but my brain is failing me (lol)

Here is a link to a site with a few Mississippi makers and their websites also some available knives from them.

A few more,
Paul LeBatard,Gene Ingram & Charles May,and Bobby Toole.

There is another maker, here in Lucedale, Ms. named Keyes. I can't remember his first name. But he lives right down the road from me. He makes some of the finest slipjoints I have seen. I have never met him, but several folks around here have knives that he has made. He is an older fellow and I don't think he is real concerned about being well known.

I have found that I have met quite a few makers around that like not having the national attention and like things just fine making for the locals at a slow pace without worrying about who likes them and who doesnt.

There is photo of a J.P Jones Loveless style fighter in the January issue of Knife World. It is a good looking knife.

I know Mr. Jones and have 3 of his knives. He is a good guy and I enjoy his work.

Here is a Loveless style Chute knife that he made.

I have a six inch fighter, the Chute knife and a sheephorn hunter, all ATS-34.

Fuzzy photo, but I hope you see my point.

I got the call today that the knives were done. Mr. Jones sent me this picture that he took of the knives. As you can see, I had two made exactly the same, one for me and one for my brother.

I hope to get many years of service out of both of these knives and eventually pass them to the next generation.

I hope to see him again next year at the knife show in Little Rock.

Thanks for following back up on this and letting everyone know that your knives were made in a timely manner!

They look GREAT! Do they come with Sheaths?

Feel free to post more pics when you get them.
