Short and simple.I have a Coote grinder, its my first.I am just starting to grind and loving/hating every minute of ot:D .Does anyone have any jigs for a Coote grinder?????? THANXALOT......

yep, the same jigs you have, my two hands. its tough at first. after a while you will start to feel a little pride,

My advice, STAY AWAY FROM THE JIGS! If God wanted you to use jigs, your fingertips would be allen wrenches...

Seriously, practice on small, hollow grinds using a push stick and moderate belt speeds until you can make a hollow grind that stops and starts where you want it. I'd suggest a blade width of about 1-1 1/4", and a length of 3-4", with a smooth, curved edge (drop point). Grind edge up, and, scribe your desired grind lines onto the steel. Use 01 steel, 'cause it grinds easy and is inexpensive.
Practice, Practice, Practice.

I watched a video where the maker used a push stick with a notch. I went out to the shop and made one before finishing the video. I used a piece of Corel, because that's what I had on hand and it's free at the dumpster of a counter top maker, but almost anything can be used. I now have several types and use them all the time.

I agree with the others. Don't use jigs, they are a crutch,IMO. The longer you depend on them, the longer it will take you to learn to grind.
I you are turning too much metal into scrap, and this is of monetary concern(what isn't?), then go down to the lumber yard and get a bunch of 1/4" thick lathing strips. Lay out your patterns on them and grind them like it was metal. You will be able to use the same belt for a loooooooooooong time. This will give you a feel for grinding bevels, and help with control. Hope this helps a little. Good luck.

Thanks for the advive guys. You told me what I already thought, but hearing it from folks with morew experience helps.Off to grind now....THANXALOT:D

The coot grinder is a good one, I used mine for 8
years befor getting a Berr King, then made it into
a 3 wheel, small wheel grinder. Learning to grind
free hand is the onley way to go. Gib
