Over a year ago, I picked up this delightful little folder from Louis VanDerWalt from So. Africa. His workmanship is, obviously, exceptional--as you can see from his great lines. He is a pleasure as well. Good score! Here's how it LOOKED.....
The plot thickens..... As you know, the community of makers has some extraordinary talent hiding in the shadows. Jim Small is no newcomer to the Guild or Custom's, and I believe he even did a PBS TV series on 'Making a Custom Knife' in the eighties. He's a maker/engraver extaordinaire from Georgia, and when he posts a knife, you can be sure it's a beauty! I chatted with Jim privately over email and asked him if he's be interested in doing a little outside engraving work for me on this folder. Fortunately for me he agreed.
Jim took this beauty and gave it the Midas touch! Open scroll work with leaves and gold inlays. Deep relief cuts with small veins and shading. I asked him to use a free-flowing design with no border. The rest was up to him. He done good.
The artistry, workmanship, and detail is incredible. This is a pretty small folder. Jim has been an absolute pleasure to deal with. (I've gotten TWO great things from this transaction!) He's holding another one for me to do at a later date. I'll just let him run with it!
Hope you enjoy the views as much as I do! Thanks so much, Jim!
