Several years ago I acquired this blade, I think thru Matt Lamey. I ended up selling it to another collector of Jimmy's work. I recently had the chance to get it back and it took no time to say "YES!!!".

Outside of a Jungle Honey this is the Fikes I would most want to own. Jimmy went all out with a terrific shape, right side grind,
double turks heads and a large artistic logo.

The blade on this is 10 1/2" with OAL being 17". I took a photo of it next to a Camp knife of his, which is large to begin with.

Wow - an impressive and rare piece. No surprise that you didn't pass on the chance to reclaim that one. Together with the camp knife, that makes for an exceptional pair. Congrats bud!

wow....Win, if you're not going to use it, I'll buy it from you and put it to good use...., lol. only thing is, who's going to resharpen it afterwards since Jimmy's retired....

Fantastic,Win.
Sometimes they come back home.
Great blade.
Organic and elemental.

Thanks for all the replies. I hope Jimmy's reading this and seeing how people appreciate his work. Doug said it best"organic and elemental".

This model is a Parang, I forgot to put that in my first post. I went back and pulled out my old Fighting Knives magazines and Jimmy showed up more than once. There is one where they interview Jimmy, pretty interesting.

FK: What's a knife to Jimmy Fikes?

Fikes: You take piece of metal, sharpen it so it has an edge that will cut. That's a knife. From here it just gets more complicated.

How true.

Generally speaking, I am not a fan of chord handles, but there is an exception to every rule and those two knives are it!!! I reaqlly like what Mr. Fikes did with theend of the tang too. Great score..........or re-score, if there is such a word:D

you so lucky you had two...but to get reclaim it back...that is awesome. i've been looking for one of Fike's.

how come there are no Fikes for the rest of us? Win seems to have a HUGE COLLECTION, lol...

that parang knife looks like it's inspired by the barong....

Win - do you have a close up of the cord wrap? that is different from the usual Japanese wrap? anyone know a step by step of how to do that?

thanks....

You'll be able to find a slew of cord-wrapped knives by Jimmy Fikes, Maggie Fikes, Matt Lamey, and Don Fogg that will be and look totally appropriate. You'll be able to find a giant Maine coon cat who controls Jimmy Fikes and he'll be appropriate, too.

Win,

Thanks for showing showing those knives. I appreciate the oppurtunity to view them here.

Here you go, Spyken. I usually wouldn't be jumping all over cord wrapped handles either but they're just right on Jimmy's and a few others knives. I'm not sure about a tutorial but Matt Lamey would be a good place to start.

I'm lucky to have been able to acquire these over about 15 years of trying.

Notice the wrap is a dark green and the turk heads are black:

dibs, dibs!

Matt, how is that wrap done? it's not like the regular japanese wrap, right? I can't seem to figure out how it's done but I like it....

Thanks for the pics Win......you suck for having so many Fikes, lol!

i spent the day with Jimmy today... we had a "mental health" day and solved most of the Worlds problems.

the wrap is very simple, over/under... the turks heads are just that.... turks heads, wich are simple enough in theory, but are a pain in the ass when your doing 3 (as in the above photo) or 4 strand Turks heads (as done on the Fikes Katana's/Jungle Honeys).

Ive only done the Turks heads once, in the time it took me to tie one I could have made another blade... Jimmy is much quicker, and I guess I would be too with practice.

Today we didnt talk knives much, mostly focused on talking blacksmithing in general which im starting to get into, and Jimmy has quite an extensive knowledge of.

Win thanks for posting those amazing knives. I first became interested in his knives when I saw that huge damascus recurve in Fighting Knives back in the early nineties. I finally scored a Fikes Tanto off of these very forums the other day. It should be in my sweaty little hand any day now. I can't wait.
