I just couldn't resist sharing my latest toy with y'all. It's a small hunter by John Etzler, a custom maker out of Ohio. His usual fare is high-end damascus pieces. He told me that he wants to get back to the knives that he started with, so he's making a few simpler pieces. It may be simple, but it's beautifully crafted. It's got a 3.5" hand rubbed 440C blade and is 7.5" overall. The handles are stabilized spalted maple with screws instead of pins. A nice touch IMO. The price was very reasonable and the service was outstanding. My e-mails were answered the same night - usually within the hour. He told me that he'd hold my check until I got the knife and told him that I was completely satisfied with the knife. He even e-mailed me on the day that it was expected to arrive to see if I'd received it. Overall, I could not have asked for a better experience with a maker. Check out some of his other great pieces at:

Very nice piece, Kelly.

I've learned that John has a wonderful reputation amongst people whose opinions I respect. Says volumes. So does the knife.

Kelly, looks like a comfortable handle and a very user friendly blade shape, nice knife for anyone's collection! That handle has such a nice pattern, you could stare at that for hours couldn't you...
