At Blade I had the opportunity to handle John Horrigan's knives. One knife that stood out for me was a very large take down Bowie/short sword he had on his table. Although I really liked it my funds were depleted at the time. Last week it appeared on one of my favorite purveyors sites (BladeGallery). In the meantime I sold a couple of my other knives and so now I'm the happy owner of this great looking knife.
The blade is satin finished 1095 carbon steel with a distinctive hamon (clay hardened). The length of the blade is 18.25 inch and the overall length is 24.25 inches. The bolster is gun blued mild steel with pure silver leaves inlay. The handle is presentation grade fossilized walrus ivory with warm tones of caramel and burnt cream. A sculpted pommel of matching mild steel features a Texas Ranger five point silver star in the center. The sheath is Caiman leather with 416 stainless steel throat and tip and features a matching Texas Ranger star.

That's an absolutely beautiful piece Marcel.:thumbup::thumbup:
I was very impressed with his knives at Blade. In addition to his knives, John's silver and leather sheaths are outstanding. I also saw that piece appear on Blade Gallery. Glad if found a good home.

I was soooooo very tempted by that piece at Blade as well. I'm glad that it has found such a good home.

I couldn't afford it, but i did dream about this one!

That is absolutely amazing. CONGRATS to you

I to saw this blade at blade and thought it was the best penny guard at the show. I think this knife to be timeless. By that I mean it would command respect in any time period.

I also had the pleasure of handling that and some of John's other knives at Blade. Congratulations Marcel. John does great work.

Nice aquisition. I was lucky enough to be there to watch different parts of that hunting sword's construction. John is truly a master at work. Enjoy your new piece.
