So we picked handguns in the "you can only have one" scenario. Now, what long gun would you pair with that one handgun?

Probably my Winchester 9422 because it uses the same .22 long rifle ammunition as my Ruger Mark III handgun choice. Then again, my 870 Express is a bomb-proof meat gun that is also cheap to own and shoot. Tough choice.

I don't own one yet but I hopefully will one day but my choice would be a Savage model 24 with the combo .22/20 gauge. I figure that the .22 barrel will cover small game like squirrel and the 20 gauge can cover turkey, bird, and deer when used with a slug. There are a few combos of tis that I want but this one would be the most versatile.

I`m going to say either my 10-22, or my Dad`s old Mossberg .22 bolt action target rifle. The Mossberg has a 24" heavy barrel, and is a tack driver, even with it`s open sights. Pair that up with my .357, and I`d be happy. Then of course there is my 870 riot gun. I have a spare 28" barrel with interchangeable choke tubes. Decisions, decisions!

I was going to say my Red Ryder BB gun, but I`d probably shoot my eye out!

I think this one is an easier decision, my Tikka 12/222. It's one of the hardest shooting shotguns I have ever owned and the 222 is more accurate than my shooting. I have a older Leupold Vari X-II on it and have never had any issues.

I love my 9422, only I got one of the ones that had some finish issues. Maybe one day I will refinish it. I'm going to cheat and say an AR. That way I can change uppers and have a 5.56 rifle and get a .22lr upper later.

Yep.....22 has such versatility it's the best first choice. The ammo is still cheap (though not as much as it use to be) and they're just plain fun to shoot also!

.22 wins. Just about the only thing that you could potentially carry a lifetime of ammo for on foot.

I would choose one that is reliable and has few parts to go bad. Most likely something like a tube fed bolt action or a single shot with good iron sights.

Something like an M6 Scout or a well made drilling shotgun/rifle combo would not be a bad choice.

Or a 12 gauge shotgun with reloading gear and a 22 rifle insert adapter.

A good side by side with double triggers would give you two actions in case one fails.

Perhaps a muzzle loader with plenty of powder and lead.

Kind of depends on what the conditions are for having to choose only one.....people problems vs. food gathering

Depending on the situation, something like an AK and a bunch of snares may not be such a bad thing either!

Hell, on second thought just get a mule and make him carry the extra guns and ammo.

Make that two mules, for all the knives and you will want some snacks.

I would consider three, my Ruger 10/22, Mossberg 500 12 gauge and one that I do not own but have shot and hunted with numerous times, the Ruger Deerstalker .44 carbine. The 10/22 makes a ton of sense, great reliable gun, light weight and easy to carry/obtain ammo for. The Mossberg for its versatility and toughness. Or the Deerstalker for its 10/22 like attributes and the ability to utilize one caliber of ammo?

Tough call

Hi Sean -

I would choose my Marlin model 60 .22 lr.

Accurate, used to be cheap (I paid $50 for mine way back when) and fun to shoot.

best

Model 60's a very accurate rifle. I had a short barrel version called the model 75C that was a hell of a squirrel gun in its day...It did wear out to the point it would not always cycle so became a single shot. Perhaps a worn out spring. I think the 10/22's are a little better for the long term over a model 60, bolt action even better than that...but that could be just one special case with that certain gun. I do like the tube feed vs. a magazine.

I sure do love my Mossberg 500, but it would be nice if it had some ghost rings,,, so I'm gonna say Mossberg 590 for a one and only.

Would it make sense to have the rifle use the same ammo as the handgun? Or is this just personal choice here. I would pair up A .357 revolver with a Marlin lever .357. Might not be able to take out the largest game but for most everything else no prob.

If I had to choose my favorite long gun to go with a handgun it would be my HS Precision in 300 WSM. The favorite handgun would have to change from my TC contender in 35 remington that I chose before to my Ruger single six in 22lr.

My favorite rifle:

I agree with Jason, my handgun choice would be different if I planned to pair it with a long-gun. There are few situations that a good 22 pistol and a reliable shotgun/rifle won't handle.
